'73. The '71 and '72 boattails had a more pronounced center point, such that the license plate was offset. Not sure the color name but now that you know the year it shouldn't be hard to find.

73.. and it probably started out as one of the factory greens (code 42, 44, 46, 48) but I believe your looking at a repaint color there.

GM was not real big on the "speedboat metallic" colors back then.

There was a midnight green (code J 48) in 73 but I do not believe it was metallic. Extreeeeemely rare color on the 73 Riv. The color in pic sure is purdy factory or not. My resolution is not good enough to see if its metallic.
    I don't think its Jade Green G 42

If its midnight green I'd like to see more pics.

That is a model year 1973 Riviera GS.
(with a Stage I sticker on the chrome air cleaner lid)
There is a British licence plate on this car, it's also resprayed in Blighty.

It's not a factory colour, it's named Candy Apple Green :TU:

This car was sold through a dealer in Flagstaff, AZ and arrived in the UK in 2005.
I don't like the after market interior and the chrome on the nose of the car.

The Buick scene in Europe isn't really that big :TU:

This car came with the power sun roof and MaxTrac.
Notice the Stage I emblem on the grille:

. . . definitely a very fugly, busy interior, and that chrome moustache has to go !! :puzzled:

The question itself was the bonus or extra question. No monetary reward except elevated social status for giving the most detailed, exhaustive and definitive, irrefutable answer. Candy green is not a GM color and no PPG code so we deduct half a point for that, but still, you went above and beyond with the photo essay and for that you are the man.

The more I look at the photos you posted, the more it looks like Jade Green though which I believe was only offered in 73, code 42 ppg 2528 .

Now I have a bonus question for you.

What is your favorite? All other things being equal 71,72,or 73 and why? Looks, performance, and overall.

I like the '73 better from the rear, the bumper is better looking and there are 8 tail lights.
It also gives the car a much wider look.

The other two years have the "Hunchback of the Notre Dame-look" with those pointy bumpers and ugly looking lights.

The front of the '73 also looks better, but I never liked the "picnic table 5 MPH impact bumper" on the 1973 models:

So I moved the original bumper closer to the chassis:

Later on I decided to go for a split bumper, those bumpers are now on board member "75riv" (Rob)'s 1973 Riviera:

wow you dutch guys are hard core! moving and cutting bumpers! I have the picnic table bumper on my 73 lesabre which I have always disliked. I imagined cutting it narrower and modifiying it. Later I just accepted it. Now I like it except from the side view. Its beyond my skill level to modify a bumper, but it would be cool.

So, heres a riv question. I have seen rivs of 71-73 passenger side dashboards. Some are straight like the Lesabres and some are curved. What is the deal?
