Trimmed and put a nice tight fit for the mid motor plate brackets. Now,time to weld them fast to the frame...Back to waiting on parts again..
Yes! Actually shut it off while pumping gas today. Started right up. Then drove another 10 miles to a CAT scale (curious what it weighs) and had to shut er off to go inside to get weight. She started right up. Looks like going back to points solved the no hot start issue. Might need to re-adjust carb. Only getting about 5-6mpg now. Think I was 8-9 mpg before the disti swap. Oh yeah, she’s a heavy one lol 4020 lbs without me and a full tank of gas.
The TA valve spring tool arrived Friday and I was fixing to remove those pesky inner valve springs for cam break in but our newly acquired kitten (Stinky) claimed ownership since it's been vacant too long. Looks I have a fight on my hands.
Yep, storing stuff can create an opportunity cost that can be quite high. Good luck unloading the excess stuff.
Only cylinder I could not get that tool to work was #8 as the A/C box was in the way to press down on the springs. Broke mine in with those 2 springs inplace.
Tuned the speedometer, so that it can keep up, once the the 482 arrives Polished the lense, assembled everthing and did a light test
Bought some gages from Hector(Carhex) and was fitting them into the Lesabre. Thinking the 2 small ones will work ok but unsure of the tach inplace of the clock. Best place would be inplace of the gas gage but I sorta need a gas gage. Also, Im thinking silver faced gages would look better.
Hey Briz, those gauges look good! I don't know about the tach being way over there, though. Kinda hard to keep an eye on..
Had a thought yesterday and tried something different. Removed the fuel gauge and its only fed with a 3 wire plug and 2 bulbs. Exactly the same size as the clock. I like the location better but this would require the bezel to be trimmed and also its not the right color. Now searching for a silver faced tach and matching gages. Only other option is to install the matching white speedo.
That would be much better! Awesome how you can relocate the fuel gauge to that spot. I agree that a silver faced tach and gauges would look great. The white/black does stand out a little
Finally got around to trying to fix my directional signal problem. Left side worked fine but right side the dash indicator (and the rear lights) would come on but not flash. My logic as well as the shop manual says this condition indicates one or more bulbs burned out or open circuit on the right side, right? So, I went about checking the bulbs both front and rear and all checked out good. WTF? So, just for kicks I decided to run to NAPA just down the streets and pick up a $4.49 flasher. Guy at the counter asks what the symptoms are. After telling him he says, "has to be a bulb out". I take the new flasher home and guess what? The flasher was bad. Lesson re-learned...…..Logic doesn't always work. Now I'm looking forward to each right turn just to see that silly flasher light blink happily.
I pulled my dash out last week for a couple reasons: There were bulbs in the speedometer that were missing; I pulled the headlight and wiper switches out to disassemble, clean & lube with dielectric grease and am finally getting around to replacing the blue tabbed heater cable that always breaks, due to it getting the most use. The headlight switch works as new now, smoothly transitioning from off to brighten/dim. There was previously a slight hiccup when I would turn the knob. The wiper switch, on the other hand, made no difference. I need to fix the motor as it only works on the low speed. Inline tube sells the single cable, which appears to have much sturdier tabs. You'll see the original cable fix below that likely works better when the end that affixes to the heater box is the only part in need of repair. The angle from the heater control where the cable makes a 90° turn (toward the heater box) is too much for this repair and causes the cable to bind with the heater control.
Working on making a shroud for electric fans and panicked when I saw that the original shroud was much smaller than my new radiator! Had to pull the radiator out of the box and try it in the core support in the car - fit fine (I think) - whew!
Trying something new at home Caswel zinc plating trial and error but my successes are outweighing failures. I think it may be more expensive than sending it out. Definitely time consuming but liking the results.
I tried installing my exhaust system but to my dismay I was unable to get the muffler tucked up where it should be without the head pipe hitting the floor pan. Turns out the TA system doesn't have the offset on the head pipe at the muffler end like OEM had. Lost interest in the car for the rest of the weekend.
Washed 2 Rivieras and a Sprinter van. Yesterday I did a nice smokie burnout at waterboys gathering. He said I was awarded best burnout of the day. Really dont think the other guys tried hard enough.
