Refinishing the rear window channel to install a new Vintage glass rear window. On my 71. Purchased their light smoke tint glass. The 6 window kit. Includes the windshield. Which is already cracked. Side glass is in. Did those while doing a power windows conversion. I found no rust in back. Just doing a clean. Scuff and 2 coats of EASTWOOD Rust incapsulator paint. I've masked the car off to keep overspray from the imterrior and body.
So someone does re-pop the back glass for 1970-72??? Does it have the slight curve inward that our cars use?
Today I dropped the trans pan to check the filter in the Lucerne then unclogged the sunroof drains. Lifted the driver side carpet and set up some fans to dry it out. LOT of water under there. Next replaced the heater control valve on the 68 Riv so I have heat again without coolant dripping down the back of the block. Drove the aforementioned Riv to Wally world and then lowes. Came home and did some more deck repair. after 4 hours the car wasnt much dryer than when I started so kicked it up a notch by adding some heat. That did the trick. Another hours and its mostly dry. Got dark and had to shut it down for the night. Will check and resume tomorrow.
This company is , VINTAGE GLASS. As for the curve ill check it against the original out of my car. I actually never noticed a curve in the back glass. They do offer clear, the green tint and light smoke I think its called. And I think a Limo tint. Colors simular to what Someone would have installed on the inside of the clear glass.
Painted the freshly blasted upper control arms, frame stiffeners, rear anti-swaybar, & new (to me) boxed lower control arms, so I can get the newly rebuilt rear back in the Stage 1 4-sp. It didn't orig. have F-41 but since it's not being restored anytime in the near future & I had the bar so figured I'd add it and enjoy the better handling. We'll see when the time comes to restore the car what happens to that & whether the tach stays (orig. came w/a Rallye Clock).
Put up with the heat & humidity, and replaced the anicent P/S hoses. Buoyed by sucess there ( and a couple of cooling beers) I decided to fit the fake "Momo" steering wheel. 14 inch, and I'm loving the better weight and feel. And the thicker rim feels great.
Waiting for the km/h-sticker for my speedometer I decided to give the instrument cluster a better "ground" Also fabed a bracket to create clearance in between the emergency brake and the new kick panel. Finally fooled around with the mechanism to operate the vent flap. Little things to do in my nice heated basement, while it is frickin cold outside.
Checked the GS400 over and ran it around the block. Planning on taking it to work tomorrow, then to meet the local Buick homies for dinner afterwards. Just to work and back is a 90-mile commute.
Started pulling the engine / trans out of the 77 LeSabre. Have a bare block and empty trans case to help with mock up. Hoping I dont have interference issues on the right side with the heater box.
Decided to increase my carbon footprint on the world, and take the GS400 to the grocery store on my lunch break. Friday is my work from home day.
Ok, so the engine and trans is totally disconnected from the car, Chain is hooked on to the block, drive shaft and cross member are out. All thats left is to lift it out. Been storming here and it got really dark in my back work area so called it good enough for today. Working on a plan in my brain on how to route wires and make connections to the 455. Other than the starter being on the R side rather than the L everything else except Alt should be pretty close.
I'm taking the GS400 to a local car show tomorrow (thanks Fernando!). Last night I vacuumed it out, polished the aluminum up a bit on the console, dusted off the other surfaces, and scrubbed the floor mats. Tonight I gave it a good scrubbing on the outside. It was due for a good cleaning anyway. I think the last time it was washed was when I got back from BG, back in May.
Put a belt on the motor...It's a biggie! Started mocking up the mid plate brackets and front plate brackets...Moving forward as fast as new parts arrive. Ordered a Derale oil cooler and started shopping for a Earls oil thermostat box for the engine oil cooler. Need to get a new Wilwood non power master cylinder as well..
Like I mentioned last night, I took the GS400 to a local car show at StreetSide Classics in Lutz today. Was a very cool show with a great turn out. StreetSide had some pretty cool cars in their facility, too. Here's some photos: The Buicks. There were only 3 or 4 total: There was a really sweet 55 ragtop there with an LS motor in it, but there was always too many people near it when I was, so I didn't get a picture. This one was my favorite. Walking up on it, it looks like a bare bones 80 something Corolla, that was in decent shape. Get closer and it has a LS motor and 4L60 transmission, along with a 9" for rear end. The dual pipes came out just short of the rear bumper and were not real obvious. Cool car! This early 50s Chevy was cool too. Very understated with a LS1 in it: And a Vette Cart: There was a lot of nice cars there. Your car had to be 30 or more years old to enter the show. Of course there were a lot of nice Corvettes, Camaros, Chevelle's, and a boat load of street rods. I had a blast there today. Since fixing the ingition with the rebuilt point distributor, I've been having so much more fun driving the car! Was a great day today!
