I have used most of these spacers and found that they do help in faster 1/4 mile times. My last set up with the SP1 was a 3 inch adaptor from 4150 to 4500 and a 1 inch Phenolic or to me it looks like wood and ran 10.77 with stock .030 70 sealed power pistons big cam 462. I freshened up the engine and went to a cool runner and have a TA 1 inch aluminum adaptor spacer and thinking that the phenolic spacer would shield heat but the cool runner does that anyway. After warming up the engine the intake was as hot as the engine. I guess I will try it like it is and add the wood spacer if it dosen't perform like I want. My question for this thread is what have you guys used to help you 455 run better. My engine only has 10 to 1 compression so it might work for that but not for high compression engines. I allways milled the spacer to match the intake for optimun performance.
Is it a cloverleaf shape or if it has 4 round holes I guess it is. Do you have a pic and part number?
Did you have to make any jet changes with the tapered spacer. I have a 1" Wilson(Dominator) tapered spacer on my car, and haven't had a chance to go to the track yet.
Sometimes but you need to open that taper up a bit because you are just going down from the size of the Dominator back to 4150. I would try it first than open it up and see if it helps.
I think there was a misunderstanding, My tapered spacer(ala super sucker) is a 4 hole on top and open on the bottom, both are 4500 dimensions. Maybe you thought I was talking about a transition spacer, from 4150 to 4500.
Right now I have a T/A SP 1, no I didn't port match it, it's untouched. I have a Wildcat intake I bought from GS Kubisch that appears to have been massaged:Brow: I'm gonna try that out later to see what the difference will be. Hopefully it will be a couple of tenths.
Yes, HP9375. They are way too lean out of the box since they are designed for dual quads on a tunnel ram. Mine came with 88s and I went to 92s right away.
That's what I got and I'm running 98's on all 4 but you won't be able to go that fat unless you have a Stinger S4 ignition or an ICE. I would try 94's. That's what mine came with but it wasn't new. Do you have a pic and a part number of the sucker? I would like to see top and bottom. The ads never show it right. I had a SP1 running that with a 3" adaptor that was ported and a 1/2" wood spacer.
I don't have a picture, but the part # is Wilson 024110(at least that is what it reads on the box) it's a 1" tapered Dominator spacer. I bought it from Speed unlimited in Maryland a couple years ago.
Wow you guys carbs are a lot richer than I have mine, maybe its time for a jet change. I don't think I will start as high as you guys are now. I'll probably start with 90's and jet up or down to see what the motor likes.
Ross flat top pistons(approx. 13 to 1), stock rods,Poston GS 105(same as KB mark 4),Rhoads lifters, T/A stage 2 street eliminator heads, T/A 1.65 roller rockers, T/A SP1 intake, 2" headers,
Wow! that's alot! I had the 105 with even grind and it stiil ran 10's but was running Quadrajet in my 66. What ignition? What rear end gear? Turbo 400? What's the 60' ---------- Post added at 10:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:50 PM ---------- Oh the port match is losing some power and are the heads ported at all.
