MSD 6AL ignition, 3.90 rear gears, Turbo 350, 10" ATI treemaster converter.Car hasn't been to the track yet so I don't know what it will do for a 60' time. The heads have had the bowls cleaned up(the transition between valve seat & port). Ports are untouched.

That should run pretty good. You might eat up that 350 if it launches hard. Make sure you shift it to 3rd before you come out of the burn off box. 2nd gear burn offs kill 350 and 400 transmissions.
    How much was that spacer?

Thanks for the burnout advice. The spacer was about $150.00(kinda expensive).

I seen them cheaper than that but you have to search around to get the best deal. I loaded the video on 462 build check it out.

I just watched it, that thing sounds good,it started on the 1st try:grin: What do you think it's going to run at the track?

Well That wasn't the first try but it did start quickly and then I set the timing and all that. It might be a little too much timing so I will have to recheck it before I make a run. I just hope it will run a 10.75. The fastest was a 10.77. I might want to get some new NGK UR5 plugs before I run it.
Your engine with the 105 should sound close to that.

    Yes it does.

Let's hear it! You got a video? I ran that cam with 10 to 1 compressiion and still ran 10's.

I don't have video yet. I will work on getting one made.

Hey guys, I am running a nailhead hope you don't mind me posting on this thread. No one resonds on the nailhead section. I port my own heads and intake and then I flow the head with the intake on it. I could hear some turbulence so I stuck a 4 hole 1 inch spacer on and the turbulence went away and I picked up 3 cfm at .500 and .600 lift. So I took the spacer and cut out between the back secondary holes and then I cut a arch in each side between the front and back holes like a Wilson and I picked up 2 more cfm. It really helps the top plenum, helps the air make that turn. Cant wait to try it on the car.

No problem, How many cfm does a good nailhead flow.

Hi Jeff, I would say what my test head flows, 242 cfm at .600 lift at 28 inches is very good. Nothing near where you guys are flowing. That's why when I picked up 4 or 5 cfm with the intake on the head by putting a spacer on the manifold it was a big deal for me:cool:

242 cfm is not a bad # for an engine with 401 cubic inches.

Back to this carb spacer. I got this untouched KB Cool Runner and ported it to my heads and opened it up to a 1050 Dominator. I bought the 1" TA adaptor plate and opened up the intake to match it. This is where the spacer plates comes into play. I only ran 3 times but the rings might not have set but it went slower than the SP1 with a 3" reducer with a 1/2" Phenolic down to the 4150 intake but I made all that smooth and opened it up as large as I could. Now the engine is running again and I'm thinking that a low compression engine with a big cam and a big carb needs more flow from the carb to the intake. I have a 1" Phenolic spacer that I will put on this set up now and I noticed the TA adaptor is not as big. So I ground out the top of the TA adaptor to meet the 1" Penolic spacer. Here is a pic of what I have done so far but there is more room to take off of the TA spacer. My thoughts are that if you have a low compression engine, 10-1 that you need more velosity to make it work. That is why the other intake worked so well because I had like 4"'s of funnel to increase the flow into the intake. Hey it ran 10.77 with 1970 Sealed power pistons so it was working. Here's a pic of what I got so far and I ground down the edges where the Ta adaptor was bigger than the Phenolic spacer.

I really think those runner dividers should be knife edged so the flow can easily go were it wants.

Well it was running faster and faster a couple of weeks ago and was at 10.85 with 100 lbs in the trunk so the 1" penolic spacer made a difference. I never got to run it all out with no weight but I couldn't slow it down either. On the first practice run for the Super Street I lost second gear in the trans. We added another 100 lbs to it to try and slow it down. I still think edging those runners would help. So I say yes to phenolic carb spacers since it ran 11.12 without it and was in the 10's with it. If you have a low compression engine and a big cam and carb you need to speed up the air flow with spacers.

ronbz455, I am pretty sure if you get into the set up you are showing and even everthing up in the plenum that you can it will help flow. Also knife edging the runners should help mid range and top end rev quicker. Just my .02. Good luck

This is what the SP1 looked like with a 4500 to 4150 reducer that I ran a 10.77 with. I had a 1" phenolic on top of the 3" adaptor and it helped.

Looks good and it works. Looks like your having some fun also:TU:

I use a 1" phenolic to keep the carb cooler. Picked up 25hp on the dyno with a 1" spacer. Anything smaller or bigger engine lost power. We have tried this on multiple Buick combos and the 1" worked the best
