Im looking at getting a new 3/8" air ratchet. Wanted to get some opinions on what to get. Im looking at an IR 109XPA or a SO FAR72C. What do you guys use??
Hmmm, can't help you there. I have a Chicago Pneumatic 734 1/2" impact and a Rodac butterfly gun, both from the '70s.
i use one every day.doesn't seem to matter what brand you buy, they just don't last more than a year or 2 (i've have many different ones over the years).right now i'm using a cheap house brand one that i got for $12.95 when a local tool retailer closed.has lasted about 2 years so far & if it takes a crap tomorrow,i've got 2 more new in the box.
I have a MAC 1/4" which works like a champ, got it from a friend about 10 years ago. I'm thinking about picking up a 3/8" sometime, just in case I need to take the hood off again (hope not). MAC and, of course, Snap-On are tops on my list. I have a few old blue points which don't work well at all, they've just been sitting under the workbench for years. My IM6100 is my go-to impact gun for big jobs.
Cheapest I can get, Harbor Frieght. 20 bucks. If you are scared get the replacement warranty. I have found the cheaper brands run faster since I bought a Blue Point and had it rebuilt and it is slower than a cheap brand. Oil it every now and then.
I agree. They last longer than you would think. $20 bucks and you could get a few years out of them... worth it.
J. - if you get anything BUT a Snap-On it'll need its own toolbox as it'll get ostracized right out of the big roller. Then you'll have to stop at a few yard sales and pick up some real skanky tools to keep it company at nite
I have an ancient 3/8" Snap on. It has so much torque you need to be careful or it will really twist your wrist. Duane
I'm surprised he even mentioned another company other than Snap-On. What if the "kids" heard him say that? He might try to open the Jason Cook "Snap-On tool resort and spa" (aka his tool box) and find it is locked and the key missing. Those tools have feelings and talk to each other. They can be vindictive too! uzzled:
Oh, yeah, that vindictive stuff is real obvious, too. One day, a socket will roll down the driveway, flip up, and stand up straight in the exact geometric center of the car, in the hardest part of the car to reach, guaranteed. That Goodyear commercial, with the screw falling off the hi-rise, waiting for a tire? TOTALLY true.
I have a couple of dad's air ratchets, but I never use them...I still like the old ratchet in my hands..I break less and can feel when things aren't right. I also have Snap On and CP impacts, but they rarely get used as well...
Well, i broke down and got a Snap On far72c "wrist snapper" . I found out that the IR ratchets are made in "you know where". Sorry, but I only buy the finest quality American made tools:TU:. Plus, Im a member of the Snap On kool aid drinkers society. I have a nice spot picked out for it in the air tool drawer. OOOOhhhhh......I cant wait to use it. i wish one of the cars would break! Olds F-85.... Stop by my house on garbage night and you can pick up a nice Chinese IR air ratchet in good working condition, no oil required!
ive had my so 72c for about 4 years now and still love it and use it everyday very strong and pretty fast too not as fast as the ir reactionless i had before but stonger would have got another ir reactionless but heard they changed oe design and wasnt as good anymore i want the new ir impact ratchet now that baby looks strong
