Dr. Yuk, here's a blast from the past. I'm back on this project. I've got both door locks installed and they are functioning. When the panic button is activated the lights flash and the siren blasts me out of the garage. The tilt sensor is installed but I have not tesed it. I think that portion is complete. I still have the dome light supervision, hood pin, and the trumpet horn to go. I am now working on the trumpet horn activation from auxiliary output #3 (white wire w/ blue stripe). This wire produces a negative trigger when activated. The instructions say the activation is to push and hold the "lock" and "unlock" buttons simultaneously. This lights up the auxiliary output "3" on the remote display so it is sending the signal. However I don't seem to be getting the trigger. I don't hear a click from the alarm brain. Maybe there shouldn't be a click. I initially hooked it up through the relay as you instructed but got nothing. I then put a continuity tester between the trigger wire and a ground. I expected to show continuity when pressing the buttons but got nothing. I also ran the same test on the auxiliary output #2 (red wire w/ white stripe) with the same result. Am I missing something? if you were testing the continuity with a test light, you may have blown out each of those channels. they are only made to ground the (#85) ground wire on a relay as long as the draw doesnt exceed 500ma. most testlights draw too much current. the brain should make no noises at all when activating those channels. it is done with transistors, not relays inside the brain. thats why the current cability is so limited for the those circuits.
I used a multi-testor. But that doesn't mean I didn't somehow blow it anyway. I selected my username name for a reason. ou: I'm pretty resourceful when it comes to screwing things up. Is there a "proper" way to test the trigger wire? At least these circuits are for the "extras" I don't necessarily need. Many thanks, Rick
the easy way test them is, 12v to #86 on the relay, hook your aux trigger to #85 on the relay and you should hear/feel:idea2: the relay click when you push the corect buttons. beware that some "extra" aux channels are wires that might have alternate use. for instance. sometimes a trigger wire for channel 3,4,5 or 6 might be able to be programmed for other uses like factory alarm disarm or an extra remote start acc relay or whatever. if your brain is programmed for the alterate use, you may have to reprogram the brain to use it as an aux channel 3, 4, 5, or 6(not all alarms have this may aux channels). give me a couple days to re-- familiarize myself with your system so i can make a clearer diagnosis.
I disconnected all power to the brain and reconnected it. I guess I thought it would reboot. I don't know if it made any difference, but I ran the test you suggested and the relay clicked, so the trigger wire is now working. I wired it back up the way you said and now when I press the "Aux" button on the remote, the horn honks for as long as I hold it. Those trumpet horns are gonna be a hell of a surprise to an unsuspecting sole. Courtesy light monitor is next. Many thanks! Rick
Question, doesn't the geen wire (-) door trigger perform the same function as the dome light supervision without the trouble of installing a relay? If I connect the green wire from the brain to the white wire of the door jamb switch the alarm is activated when the door is opened. Thanks Rick
NO. green wire trips alarm if door is opened when armed. DLS wire light wire turns on relay that activaties interior light for a certain amount of time each time the alarm is disarmed. once again.... A RELAY MUST BE USE WHEN HOOKING UP DLS OR THE DRAW OF THE LIGHTS WILL BLOW THE CIRCUIT AND POSSIBLY RUIN THE ALARM.
When I made my last post, I also wrote down your instructions for wiring the dome light supervision relay. I then went to the garage to wire it up. As I ACTUALLY read and comprehended the wiring diagram I finally understood they (the dome supervision and the door trigger) actually perform two different functions! ou: As you said, one (green wire) activates the alarm while the other (black w/ white) turns on the dome light when the alarm is activated from whatever source. I had incorrectly formed the opinion that "dome light supervision" meant that when the dome light came on the alarm was activated. The green wire is an INPUT to the alarm while the black w/ white is an OUTPUT from the alarm. It makes perfect sense now. I still haven't fried anything yet! But it ain't over yet. Thanks
