Pat, he didn't even want to drive that car home from St. Louis. I doubt he would drive it illegally, even close to home.
I ran across this recently (may have been linked to from a Chevy site) apparenlty for home phosphate coating? I read a bit but didn't get too deep into it: https://www.palmettoenterprisesparkerizing.com/
Cool ! Like how you are making the car period correct. Can always restore but never go back to original. Only original once like they say.
Is that shoddy assembly work or was this car cracked up in the front and thats shoddy collision work?
Sobotka always leaves current tags and insurance for me on the ones that he delivers to me. What happened there Jason?
That's the way these cars were assembled from the factory. Honestly, if I bought this car new, I'd probably take it back and complain
That's because we are all conditioned to what the over-restored cars that are out there look like... and I am as guilty as anyone of doing it.. back in the day, this would not have raised an eyebrow for most.. I recall one car my folks had.. 73 Electra.. looked like they forgot to paint half the firewall.. JW
You got that right. Who would restore a car and go through the trouble and embarrassment of having mismatched stripes for example.
Z bar was stripped, cleaned and lightly sanded. Then I applied some Eastwood zinc phosphate paint. Came out really good. Everything else is all cleaned up and ready for reinstallation
Hey Jason you gave a bit of info on the car at the beginning of the thread, but do you mind sharing how all this came together? Awhile back you started liquidating your cars and parts so I assume it was for this? I love hearing the back stories on car acquisitions, especially super rare cars
And it's back in with the correct flat washer, star washer and nut. Doesn't stand out like a sore thumb anymore
I'd like to hear the story as well! previous owner, how you heard about this car being available etc.?
The back story.... I was selling off my collection but not to buy a GSX. In fact, a GSX was the furthest thing from my mind. My reason for selling would require a couple hours, a bartender and a few drinks, but I digress... Around middle of August, I was driving to work and this car popped in my head. On a whim, I called Adam to see if Mike's X ever sold. Adam said it was still at his place. I called Mike and we went back and forth a little on price and finally came to an agreement. It was a little tense. I honestly thought I wasn't going to get it. I came home and told Jennifer, guess what! I just bought a yellow GSX! Her response? Is it a 4 speed? So I basically woke up that day unaware that by my drive home from work, I would be the next owner of this car. Funny how things work sometimes. I really do miss the aqusmist car and the beater. And it's a little daunting to have to start all over again doing all the same things I had to do on them. But it'll be well worth it.
Hey, don’t tell them all your tricks. Lol. Sounds like some stability in the house and action in the garage, or vise versus?
