Looking really good Jason. Good call on the used shifter vs the replated shifter. I like the path you're taking with the car. Very cool
Today was trunk day. I got rid of that brand new BFG Radial TA and replaced it with a nice, used 50 year old Polyglas. Little did I know 2 years ago when I bought two of these thst I'd be putting one in the trunk of my GSX! After removing more silver paint from the hold down rod and wing nut, I put the spare tire back in. Looks like 1975 in there now And yes, I had to consult the owners manual for the exact placement of things
Great job Jason. I like your approach to clean and retain, utilize inventory...Spare looks like its never been out here is one that has never hit the ground for real
Jason I truly truly truly admire your commitment to period correct but as far as tires its the only issue that I wouldn't budge on and would run radials for safety. If they reproduced vintage Goodyear G60 x 15 in radial form would you run them?
I've always maintained, if you can buy a car from a guy who is plainly OCD, its the best car to buy. You can fairly sure its right.
1975...are you going with snow tires on the back? Seriously, I fall in line with the others commenting and like your unique appoach to this particular X.
Thanks for all the positive comments fellas, I appreciate it! Today's project...the consolette got a coat of Sem trim black. I'm no painter, but it came out pretty good. You can really make out the grain now and the trim black gives it just the right amount of sheen.
No, I wouldn't. I've run the fiberglass style for years. It's not like I'm driving the car in the rain or snow. Now if I were using the car as a daily driver it would be a different story.
Im at a standstill on the dash at this point. Waiting on a couple parts. So.....might as well start a couple more projects! The clutch pedal had a bit of play where it connects to the upper clutch rod. Out comes the pedal and upper clutch rod! The hole in the pedal is pretty egged out. The upper clutch rod has a groove cut into it too. I'll bring them with me to work and stop by Bob the welders place on the way home so he can tig up the hole and put some weld on the rod. We did have one casualty though, the clutch rod boot didn't survive. It was pretty dry rotted and ripped when I tried getting it out. I reluctantly have to get a repro now....dammit! Once I get the hole tigged up, I can re-drill it. The correct size drill bit is a letter code "x". If memory serves me correctly, it's .400. One cool thing is this pedal never broke. The bracket on the pedal was factory welded with 2 plug welds which always broke. Every 4 speed car I've ever had, has had its pedal re-welded. This one is a virgin! So now I'm at a standstill with the pedal till tomorrow, might as well start on another project!! Lol I removed the replacement ps return hose with its worm clamps and installed my Caruso performance repro date coded swan return hose. I used the correct otiker clamps that were supplied. Someone painted the aluminum bracket black, so more paint stripper! Now I have homework to make sure we have the correct bolts installed. Pretty sure these two holes get flange bolts Off to look up bolts in the assembly manual...
