hey guys, figured I would share the latest on whats going on with my progress.

went to carolina dragway last nite,it was hot and humid like columbus was...but I dont have a weather station yet so I dont have specifics, but it was a broiler out there.

didnt change anything from how I had it set up in columbus where it ran 11.46 116.37 with 7.28 94.63 mph 1.686 60ft. on the 2nd shakedown pass. timing was 34*. added 1" spacer.

    moved timing to 36* for 1st run at carolina,ran 11.45 115mph,7.23 94.21,1.588 60ft.

    timing to 38* for 2nd run,went 11.288 116.63,7.12 95.40,1.54 60ft.

looked at carb jets (1090 king demon)..found 93's ft&rear, changed to 88's. i didnt load the convertor enough ( i had been leaving at 2,000 ft braking it),and bogged the car,60 ft went down to 1.623 7.32 1/8th at 94.31..

didnt get a 1/4 time on the slip, but it was nosing over past 1000ft...so carb jets are getting changed to 90's for next session.

thats it for now,but steady improvement has me happy.

one thing we noticed was the throttle blades were never opening completely,so I'll be checking on that today..could be interference with spacer. found the throttle link was binding on the secondary shaft, stopping further opening..problem fixed..also changed jets to 89 ft 90 rr only had 1 set of 90's,secondary cam was changed to white cam as well.

for everyones info here the combo as it sits:

3390 lb 72 gs stock susp. qa1 stocker stars rr, solid control arm bushings, stock arms, 12 bolt 4.10 gears, 28x10.5 et drags. t400 manual valve body, 4500 stall 10" convertor. stock ft susp. junk 90/10s , 28" et ft.

    464" stage2 TE oversize intake valve,no porting,competition valve job. 11:1 wiseco pistons,6.8 eagle rods stock crank,filled,girdled block. 1.6 rockers solid cam: .621 in .594 exh. 269 in. dur. at .050 282 exh. @.050. 106 lobe centerline intake,116 exh.

    ta sp2 intake,ported. 2 1/8" headers to 4" exh.

    msd 6a/hei dist. 8mm wires.

    thats it..Fish

    Getting there....

Keep chipping away at it! Keep those jet changes to 2 jet sizes at a time, don't want to see you hurt something without even spraying it. It will go 10's when the weather gets better and you that tuneup dialed in.:TU: Let me know when your ready to fix that intake.....:Brow:

If I had figured out the carb at the track it probably would have gone in the 10s that night,it cooled off for a spell, but the car wasnt charged and ready.
We all thought 93s were way too big ,but the 86s in ft and 88 in rr were too lean...90's went back in after I fixed the carb on the bench,so we'll go from there.
Im still shifting at 6500,but damn its pulling hard...might give 7000 a try next time.

Big Nasty..it's Pat,right? thanks for the encouragement..I am confident 10's are in the next trip to the racetrack.

Eric...I'm afraid it's strictly race only for it nowadays...I used to drive it to work, but it's definitely not streetable anymore. The 4500 convertor is a friends',mine is a 3500...I am not quite sure when I'll be swapping mine back in. Didn't get video or pics ,but soon we'll be taking video so maybe if I figure out how to post vids i'll do it.

Once all the tuning is done to the setup now,I'll be working on the spray...my goal is 9's. Then the heads go to get ported and the process starts all over...Fish

A good converter company can tight just the top end I have had it done several times. My n/a converter in my black flashed to 5500 hundred and was less than 5 % slip at 6850 which kicked butt. I would say try and have them do that so you don't lose any in the 60'. I hate to give up anything on the 60 do to the fact thats were the et is at.

My converter Is A Protorque from Long Island NY Ill have them Tighten it up When i move back From mobile AL 1.601 Was my best time but my Average was 1.62 off a 2 step rev limiter. Poor mans transbrake..Once My converter Is tighter I think ill be in the 11.50 to 11.45 range.

Tranny was nuts on but we still have some work to do with the converter should have it back next week it was still slipping 10.5% at BPG. I had to back it off on the launch there so the sixty foots were off a solid tenth. I ran out the bigg end at 152 MPH not to bad for 3720LBS on street tires. We should be running this wensday up here and see what it can do again.

Hey Bob, What kind of Slipping % are you looking for? Any less slippage you'll be in around 155-158, 10.5% is alot..

N/a I wouldn't be happy unless it was under 5.5 but with the charger I think based on many conversations with good converter guy's like chance and atd I think if we can get it in the 6% area I should be cool I hope with the change I made in gears it might tighten the one in tha car up a couple % while I wait for the new one. I went from 3.73 to 3.55 and lost 2.5 % so I'm going back just to see if I will gain it all back it takes load off the converter with the 3.73 so it should help. Then I will put in the new one. to be honest I think it should run over 160 if I could gt it all right.

Are you going to do anything with the runner extension into the plenium before spraying it?
Did you make it to the track this last weekend?
I would have like to have gone to Midway for the 10.5 race if it wasn't for my son's birthday party. When's the next race?

Rick,I hadnt planned on doing the work to the intake until I sent it to you for porting the heads. I do have the nitrous plate under there still, and I can add more spacer if at the track after I get the car running consistent.

I am trying to make it to a track Saturday..probably Darlington,as Jackson is doing ORSCA,and Orangeburg are tech nazis. I can really go if I want, but when weekend work is available,it really pads the bank account. Let me know if you can make it.

Havent really thought about going to a race yet, maybe something small-time..I'm sure something will come around when it cools off.
