In the market for a truck, been looking the at RAM 1500 Laramie. Any one have any experience with them?

I looked at the F150 Lariat also, favored the RAM interior/exterior/options. Both seemed price relatively close.

One thing I didn't realize was how few trucks there are on the lots, I knew of a the chip shortage, but I guess until you walk onto a lot and the salesman says we only have 7 and you see the lonely 7 sitting there, then it really hits you.

Get the Tundra. Last year for the V8 and can't beat the reliability and resale retention value!

Chevy, Ford or Dodge Ram in that order. What are you using your truck for? The heavy duty trucks are more reliable than the 1500s are according to the reports.

Since you asked a specific question - yes, I've got a 2016 5.7 Laramie and love it. It's been a great truck. Rides better than the others, has plenty of go and stopping power to pull our 7k# TT, and looks far better than any of the others IMO. But's that's just the thing, it's like asking someone if you prefer provolone over swiss cheese - it's all gonna depend on the person. Get what you like, after all you're gonna be the one with the payment... which leads me to my next opinion.

If it was me, I'd hold off on buying a truck for at least another 3-6 months if you can wait. Pricing is out of line right now and dealers are not doing a lot of negotiating with customers. You'd be better off in the long run when they start filling the lots and pricing returns to normal. Again, just my opinion.

I've been using my brother's F150 now for hauling kayaks, car parts, hauling stuff to the dump, fishing gear, basically anything that wont fit in a Charger. Well he's moving back to California, so now I need something to keep doing all that stuff. Plus with restoring the GS 350 I'll need something to haul the frame, body, random parts to get worked on and in the long run to haul the car(s) to nationals. We also go up to the snow several times a year for skiing/snowboarding, again not ideal to take the Charger.

^ with dealers buying used recent trucks OVER original MSRP, and pent-up demand so high, I’d not hold my breath waiting on a ‘Fall blow out sale’ on ‘21s. Some of the stories flyong around sound nuts.

Saw a ‘19 Sierra Double Cab 5.3 on the dealer lot this morning, a truck that probably stickered for circa $45K were I to guess. 17K miles and asking $41K.

I have a Ram 1500 Longhorn model and love it. Zero issues, plenty of power, great interior. They seem to hold their value too. Same here though, lots are thin on inventory. Good luck!

So I had my trade in valued by one of the dealerships, its a 2020 Charger Daytona package with 11k miles on it that i bought a year ago, they are offered me exactly what I paid for it out the door. They are definitely throwing good money at used cars.

Guy I work with just had a dealer buy his Duramax truck outright.
Gave him $67k for a 2 year old truck with 18k miles. A full $17k profit over what he paid

You could buy a flat bed trailer and then re-sell.

I'm truck shopping as well. I'm going to buy new and will wait until the new inventory starts rolling in again. Used stuff is crazy right now

@black70buick, I could but a flat bed, but my access to a truck is moving back to west coast in 6 weeks, so I'd be stuck with a flat bed and nothing to pull it. Actually, how well could a Charger with a 6.2L haul something? I don't imagine it will do well for long periods of time.

I just sold My Power Wagon to a dealership. Then took a ride to South Carolina and picked up a 2021 Ram 3500 dually.
I really like the look of the Rams vs anything else plus the Cummings with 50 gallon tank was a no brainer. lol
Sounds like you did your research and you know what you want.
    Good luck :)

TexasT Texas, where are you from

We had been searching and pondering. There were three that seemed to fit the bill that sold the day the dealer got them. My sil sells at the Ram dealer. They have several 1500 and two dually 3500 but no new 2500. We decided to order one but with the chip shortage they told us we would have to wait until they got the pricing on the 2022 models as no more orders were being taken on the 2021 models.
So we kept up the search while waiting on the ability to order.
Sil got in a 2018 2500 ctd shortbed crew cab. Wife went down to check it out, drive it and make sure she could get in and out. She had knee surgery last year and the k2500 Chevy proved it didn't work for us with the miles and such. She liked it and could get in with the steps that are on it. It is a dream truck for me as I never thought I'd pull the trigger on a diesel. She said if this is what you want buy it so I did. Less than 27k miles. Looks real nice in black. Might be the last truck I'll ever buy.
I've owned one Ford truck and the rest Chevrolet. I think the new chevys look like a$$ and couldn't find a reasonably priced used one. And the Fords were even more expensive. So I'm a ram guy for now.

I would suggest buying a 6x12 open landscape type trailer and pull it with the charger. You'll pull any GS part you need with it along with your hauls to the dump. Once you're hauling the car to the body shop just hire a flat bed and pay the 100 bucks.

Fall of 2019 I was in the market for a new truck, the rear end went out on my 2001 Dakota. Focused on the Ford, Ram, and Chevy 1/2 ton 4 door 4X4s. Toyota was very nice but out of my price range.

Chevys seemed "cheap" in their build especially the interior finish. Plus the front end (to me anyways) was butt ugly. I did like the box step though.

Ford just didn't feel right when sitting in it. Plus wasn't impressed with he powertrain options. Most dealers seemed to only have the smaller ecotech engines.

Bought a Ram Laramie with the 5.7. With the model year end clearance I was able to get a Laramie for not much more than the cost of a Big Horn. Overall very happy, some issues with the entertainment system (mine has the bigger screen) but once my Sirus/XM expired no more problems. Service advisor said the supplier and Fiat Chrysler were blaming each other for the issues. Buying from dealer stock I wasn't able to get the "RAM Box" like I wanted.

My selling dealer emailed me a few months ago and offered (at the top of the offer range) within $5,000 of what I paid. Good trade I thought, new truck for maybe under $10,000. Dealer stock for the mid-range models was non-existent. Either high end Limiteds or the base work trucks.

I did find out dealerships LOVE to waste your time!!! No trade in....Give me your best price dammit!!! Actually had one salesman tell me the sales manager didn't have time to talk to me and to come back in the afternoon. They had the truck I really wanted so I went back. After waiting another 1/2 hour (after spending an hour and a half there in the morning) I walked out. Salesman called back and wondered why I left!?!?!

It was a suggestion for consideration. A car can handle a load better than some trucks due to lower center of gravity. If a need for a truck can be met with a flatbed then why not? You could probably get away with a light duty, single axle trailer.

If you don't need a big truck you might consider the new Maverick (about $20K):
"The Maverick is expected to go on sale by the end of this year, however a Ford spokeswoman declined to comment on additional details of the vehicle other than its name and unveiling next week." “The Maverick will be Ford’s first vehicle to debut on its new U.S. TikTok channel.” When equipped with the optional 4K Tow package, the Maverick can tow up to a maximum of 4,000 pounds. Payload capacity, meanwhile, stands at a maximum of 1,500 pounds. 30+ mpg too.

Everyone here has a brand favorite, I looked at them all, settled on Ram Laramie Crew 4x4 with the 5.7 Hemi, bought it with 8K miles for 20K off of MSRP.

50K Mile on it now, 0 regrets thus far.
