The white GSX thst sold out of Japan. Which i believe to be "The Freeway Flier" magazine road test car from 1970.

Rumor has it thst it was purchased by someone in Minnesota possibly? Anyone have any idea where the car is currently?

Wasn't that the car Mike M bought several years ago? If it's the same one, I recall he shipped it to a shop somewhere in America. Maybe Mike Garrison knows more about it. Don't know if Mike M sold it though.

The same car was used in two magazine road tests, July 1970 Car Craft "Late Sleeper" and Sept 1970 Road Test Magazine "Freeway Flyer."

Same manufacturer plates, same options (Stage 1, TH400, no A/C, PW) and same early overflow tank, plastic radiator cover, air cleaner decal placement, same handwriting for the "D" on the firewall, etc.

I've got the photos somewhere of the car when it was on eBay many years ago when it was for sale. I was always convinced that the Japan GSX on eBay was this same car. I've always wondered if the was born as one of the early GSXs with the early parts under the hood or if it was a GS Stage 1 converted to a GSX by Buick then released to the press.

From the road test dates, I'm pretty convinced it's a pre production job. Likely pulled off the line and converted by Buick for publicity

Yes, which is a pretty unusual option. I remember that I could see the switch above the radio on the Japan GSX too.

Which begs the question, if that's true (and i think it could be), then is it a real GSX or just the very first clone? :)

Thats why I'd like to see the trim tag. It may not be one of the 678 production jobs. Or GSX #1 which we have the vin to.

If the factory made it into a GSX, then is it really a clone? Lol

I’d like Brad’s opinion on this. I value Brad’s opinion since he owns the first GS that was was ever cloned into a GSX. :)

There was also a car (that I think Duane says had a brown interior?) that was made into a yellow GSX and is the one shown in some of the first GSX publicity photos.

    So does that count too?

I n The engine picture what is that hose that’s under the preheated stove pipe running from the intake towards the washer fluid area?

Looks like a hose for a charcoal canister.

Ok I’m confused. Are the plates circled Japanese plates, or is that just how we are matching the car? If they are Japanese, why would it have those plates for the article? Did they test it after exporting or do you need to register/insure it prior to importing?

Those are likely manufacturers plates. The csr was shipped to Japan at some point in the cars life. Then put up for sale in Japan and shipped back to the states to the US buyer

Got it, so not completely confirmed that the magazine car is the Japan car, but it’s highly likely. Cool thread thanks Jason and Gary
