About 6 months ago the city police came by and said that a neighbor complained about my Buick being parked on the street. He said that I should move it onto my property and that the cars in the streets are only supposed to be there for 24 hours. I never heard of that before.
I spent $600. on cement and had a nice pad poured on the side of my driveway to park the buick.
Today I needed to pull the gas tank and re-route the fuel return line. The car was on the new pad and on the sidewalk. The city police came by and said that someone doesn't like that I parked on the public right of way. I said are you kidding? He had to give me a verbal warning he said and I heard him call it in. What the heck.
He said to clean any oil that I may drip. There was No oil, no gas, no dirt on the sidewalk. I just swept 300 feet of the sidewalk and the curb 2 hours earlier, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?.
I would have done all the work in the garage, but the convertible frame off project is taking up the space right now. It was just for about 3 hours too. Also the pad goes up hill and I didn't want to work on an unlevel surface.
Two of my neighbors came right over and wanted to know what was going on. They were both outside and heard the whole thing and said that it was a bunch of BS. They both commented that nobody should complain, especially about me. One said that I have the best kept yard in a 5 block area. The other said that they know who it is.
One of the two neighbors that I was talking to is a retired school teacher and she said that she can't wait until Halloween, "Paybacks are a B****"
    :jd:
I wish I had her as a teacher when I was in school. :Smarty:
Sounds like now I should build my shop on the side of the house and have Jerry donate some of his beautiful cars to DECORATE it with.:moonu:

Well yep both of those apply most everywhere and are enforced but only when asked. They will even go as far to mark the position of your tires to see if its been there to long. Now all you gotta do is move the car forward 3 feet and back every day and its ok. You will slide under the law.You could never park on a side walk, you also must keep it clean and safe. If you have broken spots the city will also let you pay for some of the bill.

It might varry but around here every car must be registered. Don't care if your just working on it or not driving it. A unregistered car must be put away in a garage or covered up on in your yard.

But you are lucky. Most times they send out a city worker who will also look over your house. They could make you put on a new roof, paint or any other crap they can think of but only cause someone called.

They never go out looking and will ignore every other house but the one called about. Its kind of like laws they don't enforce to much as it just mean to poor people who live in the slums but if someone calls the city worker will enforce every rule. But most give them time to clean it up , find them aid or what ever. It hardley ever gets into the courts.

They just hada big work up on our local news about it. Showing people who someone called about and/or called the news about.

some people have no life of their own so they feel the need to screw with others'.

a friend of mine L.W., had about 300 acres. he had a great stash of old cars in the middle of his property. the cars were surrounded by hedge trees and were in no way visible from anyone's properety but his own.
one day this guy (who lived down the road from L.W. and was familiar with the stash of cars due to the fact he hunted and fished on L.W.'s property) that works for the county code enforcements came by trying to buy fome parts off of one of the cars.
L.W, told him that nothing was for sale and that they were future projects for himself and family members.

2 weeks later, L.W. got a letter telling him that his cars were an eyesore from the air and made the county look blighted and needed to be inside a building or under a roof within 90 days or he would face fines. they also included the phone numbers to contact county officials for any building permits and inspections pertaining to any new structures he would be putting up to cover these cars..

I would really hate to have to build a nice workshop because of the neighbors. Do you think my better half will buy that? I have been talking about it for a while now.
What will happen is the neighbor that called the police, will probably complain that I am going to block their view or something. Maybe I will have to talk to the planning department tomorrow?:Brow:

Sounds familiar! When I was moving into the house where I am at now a neighbor called the city to report me? WTF I hadn't even moved in yet and someone was unhappy with how I was getting organized. Generally these people who complain about their neighbors are unhappy with their own miserable lives. What do they hope to accomplish? The end result is always the same, animosity.

Well you could always get an old junker and paint it the most crazy colors you can think of and put it in your yard. Then when they come to you to tell you to get rid of it you tell them it is ART!!!

    Geez!

I thought i should be safe as i live out in the country & all my cars are well hidden out of sight from prying eyes. But that eyesore from the air!Now that one takes the cake!I don't think i ever heard of that!I make every effort to be friendly with my neighbors, they do have common sense though, none of them would complain about my cars. They might complain about me screaming out a torrid of profanity when i bust a knuckle now & then!!
Guess the law around here really doesn't care about the junk cars as helicopters routinely fly over my property in their endless search for marijuana plants & patches every fall.
I tell you what though-someone would have a fight on their hands if i was told i had to build a building to put all my parts cars under. This is supposed to be a free country:stmad:
I don't think i could hack it living in a town or city, seems like there are to many people who just go around trying to tell everyone how they should live:spank: :spank: :blast: :blast: :af: :af: :gt:

If they thought that was offensive wait until they read the message I'd mow in the grass for them.

I have a neighbor....(old retired woman) who sits by her window and constantly monitors all activities in the neighborhood. She has called the police on me at least 3 times.

Twice because my little dog got out of the back yard and was walking around in the front yard.

Once because my son and I were in the back of my house playing our guitars.....not loud either.

She is a very unhappy person, and wants everyone else to be as unhappy as her, I guess.:spank:

Squirt some crazy glue "gel" into all of their locks... car and doors.

Dump some Round Up all over their yard one night.

Keep letting the air out of one of their tires.

Revenge is one of the sweetest meals. I detest, no... HATE, yeah that's the word, HATE people like that who have nothing better to do than involve themselves in other people's lives. And in such a way as to be a nuisance.

Get a life! And NOT MINE!:stmad:

    Payback is a bitch......

I believe you are entitled to know who made the complaint against you......check with the police.

If so, Id go over their property/house/surroundings with a fine tooth comb and find something wrong for YOU to complain about

    Dont get mad.....get Even !!!

Our township has the same rule. If someone complains, they have to talk to you!! I explained to the man that came to talk to me, that if that was the rule, I would drive around the township, and find ALL the people that were in violation, and he would be so busy he would not have time to get back to me. That was 9 years ago ,and I have not heard from him since

It boggles my mind that so many people can't distinguish a quality collector car opposed to an old junker. Lots of people think that if it more than 5-10 years old it should be recycled. Here is a picture of my "eyesore" around the time in question.....

I was storing my friends beautiful triple black 66 LeMans (no engine) in my garage a while back (before I had so many Buicks)
I had to push it into the driveway one Saturday so I could move some stuff around in my garage.

Within hours, the cops stopped by and said they recieved a complaint about the immobile car in my driveway.
    WTF?
The car is beautiful! From the road, you can't even really tell it doesn't have an engine in it. Someone HAD to see me pushing it out, and also noticed it didn't have plates on it. I'd be proud to have it parked right out on the street in front of my house, running or not.
I was furious.. but just as helpless. There's nothing we can do except obey the law.
    :af:

    The ironic part...
The reason it was at my house was because one week earlier, his dads tranny went out in his race car. They needed to pull the LeMans out to work on the race car. It wasn't out 6 hours at his house before the cops stopped and told him the same thing. So I let him keep it at my house temporarily until they got his dads car fixed. We live about 4 blocks apart from each other.

File an appeal about the complaint. If nothing else it will let the guy know you're not just going to sit back and take it.

About 2 years back I had the 67 lark (pre-resto) parked on the street for a couple of days, came home and found it missing!

It had been impounded for not having a plate on it. I found the plate tossed into the bushes in front of my place. :blast:

<sigh> intolerance...the surest sign of idiocy.

I filed an appeal, the only resourse that the City of Calgary allows. After detailing what happned int he letter I added this paragraph...

    ...got a full refund.

another funny but totally true story - Im not totally sure of the "legal" matters but here's what happened

My neighbor across the street has a dog that likes to bark alot. Someone complained, so the police had to respond. My neighbor is a volunteer fireman and knows all the police in our precinct. They came and told him there was a complaint and he has to prevent his dog from "Disturbing the Peace". So he did.....

A few days later, same story....they respond and advise, and again he complies.

Few days later.....same story. Except this time, because it was the third complaint they had to take further action.

Now.....Im not sure exactly what this is "Further Action" legally has to be......but I was outside doing yard work when the police showed up, spoke with my neighbor, and then walked back to their car WITH THE DOG IN TOW !!! They put the dog in the back of the police cruiser and drove off:eek2:

I walked over and asked WTF ???!!!???

    "Barron has been arrested"

We talked for a few minutes about who the problem neighbor could be, and as we were talking the police returned, took the dog out of the car and said (to the dog)

"Now Dont let this happen again !!!"

We all laughed hysterically.....including the Officers. They said because there was a formal complaint they HAD to respond.

BTW, Besides Barron barking alittle bit hes one of the smartest dogs I've ever met. He never puts a paw off of their lawn and watches their children like an overprotective grandparent. He even hurds the kids (2 andd 5 yr olds) away from the sidewalk when they get near.

I still laugh at that one.....the dog was arrested :Dou:

That's the kind of neighbor I like having and there are a quite a few in this neighborhood only problem is most of them are crackheads that I'd rather not associate with. I live on a loop and am the corner house so everyone has to drive by my place to get home. I have developed relationships with most of my neighbors and have identified the problem people, of course it's all waves and smiles when they drive by. I conform to all City Codes as to avoid any problems yet I am still harassed by these people every few months. I am not the only guy on the block with cool cars either, every other house has a 60's vintage car or two in their driveway, garage or yard. I've never had more than 5 of my cars here at one time and during the day there are typically no cars parked on the street and only one in the driveway. I feel like dumping oil in peoples driveways and parking demo cars in front of there house, only problem is I'm not that guy.

Rick, if you find out who it is, we'll just half to givem a high torque, Buick powered lawn job!!!   It's too bad that some people half to try and spread their own misery. What a loser.:blast: :moonu: Don't know if it is good to get in to a pissing contest, but there are things that can be done about harrassment. Sounds like this neighbor has you under a microscope, waiting for any opportunity to call the police. You weren't bothering anyone. An appeal to the complaint might not be out of the question.
