for the street, and some strip time. Plan to run it on the street but be able to back myself up with my car. Engine is a 462,Kenne Belle pistons and shotpeened rods, deepened KB oil pan and pickup. I ordered Stage 2 2 1/8 headers and an SP2 Q jet flanged intake. Went with the head studs as well. Transmission is a TH400 with a 3000 stall converter and it has a 71 8.5 Rear with 1350 joints and 30 spline moser axles,Yukon gears and Eaton posi. I my decide at a later time to swap to my 464 and put the heads etc on that motor later. I don't see any big differences between the TE and SE heads on TA's site. Opinions??

I vote for the SE heads, more choices for intake manifolds. With the TE, because of the unique raised intake runners, you're limited to one manifold design (SP2) unless you don't mind fabrication. Easier resale as well for the same reason.

If you've already ordered a SP2 intake though, you're stuck with running the TE heads.

Not a bad thing to get stuck with though...lol

Intake limitations was the only reason I didn't buy the TE's when I bought aluminum heads. I have the SPX converted to EFI use and that wasn't offered for the TE heads. The TE's were like $300 less for the set at the time I bought mine.

Yup, bought mine several years ago, but there were multiple "winterland sale" years. Just seems they have plenty of margin to work with on the TE's, unless the market has tightened up on them a bunch since my casual observations seem to see a back order on SE heads.

FYI, if you run the TE's, you need to get a stage 2 hood scoop, the sp2 intake is too high to work with a GS or flat hood, unless you can find an extreme drop base air cleaner, which may negate any gains made with the better heads.

That said, I think the TE's have alot more potential. TA can also put 2.26 intake valves in them.

Although stage ones, I'm real pleased with my TE heads.

After rethinking it I will be changing my order to Stage 2 SE heads.. I have 5 intakes to choose from (2 B4B,2SP1 and a new SPX) so,it makes most sense to go that route. I am not worried anout carb height as I have a 3 1/2 cowl hood that will stay on the car after the fiberglass fenders are swaspped back to steel ones so that wont be an issue.. Now,to decide on the cam..

    hey Pat-

I haven't advertised them yet, but I have an older complete set of TA's Stg2 SE's that I would sell for half the price of new plus actual shipping cost.

They come with ss valves, don't really know the springs, but they are what ever would support the 508s cam, and there retainers. Porting was done by them although I don't know what the specs are. All set up by TA at the time.

They have somewhere around 65 to 75 1/4 mile passes on them. Some corrosion around the coolant passages, but nothing serious to cause leaks.

Just an offer to you before I put them up for sale here...

Guy,definitely interested in these.I was just wondering what push rods you used with these as well as head gaskets? Do I need special head bolts for them?? Price plus shipping to pa 17747??

I'll try and make this short. This came from the early built 494's. So Mike supplied the crank and I had to source the pistons and rods.
The custom pistons that Arias sold me had too thin of a top below the valve relief area. Made it almost through a season, then one day just at idle it mad a big pop. took it apart to find the top of one piston had torn a hole through in that part.
Not wanting to wait for another custom piston, TA now had their style on the shelf. But there piston pin height was slightly lower which made the piston stick out of the hole a bit. (don't remember how much)
So I had ran a .060" or .080" copper gasket. And ended up using a very long pushrod.
But I think that is all irrelevant?

    price is $1260.00.
I'll weigh them and get you pics and shipping price this weekend early next week.

Gotcha...reason i asked was I bought a 464 with pushrods that were near new from Ta.Thought maybe I could use them and not have them sitting on the shelf. They are marked but don't remember size. I have roller rockers and will just have to do a little measuring. When you get time to get a shipping price.I wont be doing anything to the car for a couple months if I go in under the knife anyways.Just trying to have everything I need for assembly date maybe August or September.

TA1270D, air cleaner for SP-2. This air cleaner is a drop base with a 2-1/2" element. It can only be used with carbs without a choke like the Holley HP series. This will give 1/2" more clearance
