Have heard many good things about Mobil 1. I plan to switch to it in the near future. I currently use "conventional" Castrol.

    Listen up !!!!!

Change your oil every 3000 miles period!!!! :Smarty:

Over the last 15 years of being in a mechanic, I've seen a lot of people think that they can get away with longer intervals. Absolute Bulls**t!!! Oil breaks down over time and loses its properties that keep it useful. You may get more mileage but you are carboning up all the vital surfaces that the oil needs to flow to. Also oil gets diluted by all the gasoline that gets mixed with it as nornal engine operation. So how great is that for lube properties.

Remember mechanics and cars/parts companies love to sell you new cars and part. After your warrenty is up why bother every changing your oil again. The 3000 mile invertal is made up by the car companies, so if you stick to it, they know that they will have very little chance of engine failure during the warrenty period. Good for them!!! This is why it's best to stick to the intervals after the warrenty.

I've had many customers with this attitude who were surprised to find that there nice quiet engine blew apart. When you show them the 1" of sludge and varnish that kept there engine quiet. They have that same stupid look on their face that every other MORON who rarely changes their oil does. Carbon, most bearing materials and many other oil contaminates are non-metalic, so the metalic drain plug won't show anything. Save money now, cost yourself $1000's later. Real great logic!!! :spank:

If you are getting actual shiny metalic bits on the drain plug after the engine is broken in (10,000 miles) you are too late. Very light metalic deposits on the drain plug are normal during break in and for along some time afterward ( rings and cam breaking in ). If you change your oil less frequently then logically you will have more.

It's your money. If you want to give it all to your mechanic in the end, fine by me. But don't complain afterward. :TU:

In my race car we change oil after every weekend and it showed. After a full season (175 passes), we never showed any deposits or wear problems. Money well spent.

Car companies don't tell you to change your oil every 3000 miles, oil change shops and service garages do.

Pick up any new car manual and tell me how long it tells you before oil changes. I doubt any tell you to do it every 3000 miles. Most have computers that sense driving habits, engine revolutions, etc. My Trailblazer would go 6000 to 7500 miles before the computer told me to change the oil. I'm not saying go 10,000-12,000 miles between changes but for the most part it just isn't needed every 3000 anymore. Engines are more efficient and oil is much better today.

I threw castrol syntec (full, not the blend) in the summit, 150k and no leaks.

Guy's remember there is more to oil than the oil itself. Manufactures put additives in the oil to reduce certian things, like wear, corrision, etc. It is mainly the break down of the manufactures additive package for the need to change the oil on a regular bases'.

Your Trailblazer's engine monitoring system that lets you know when to change your oil lists a choice of intervals that whoever resets it can choose from. So when I reset them I can choose 7500 miles if I want. I doesn't change the fact that your oil needs to be changed at 3000 miles. If you read the manual it say 3000 miles for severe operating conditions listed is "stop and go traffic" as well as many other "normal driving conditions" so this means everyone!!! Your 7500 mile interval works great in a test lab. Not in the real world!

I have faith that you'll learn the hard way!!!

Just trying to help your vehicle live longer! :TU:

On a fresh engine I recommend changing oil after cam break in (20 minutes),then at 500 miles, then 1000 miles and then the regular very 3000 miles/ every 3 months (which ever comes first). Alway inspect the drained oil for any unwanted materials. This allows you to monitor the conditions of your new engine and catch any problems early.

Change back to regular oil until the first or second 3000 mile oil change.
