Is it bad to off set grind you crank to use BBC rods? Its seems like people talk about it not being a good deal. Any reasons? Thanks Gary
I can't think of any reasons not to,BBC rods are less expensive and you get more cubes, make sure the filets on the crank are properly done and your good to go.done lots of motors with this combo. The CSB large journal rods are also a good choice,482 and still a stronger choice because the crank isn't turned as much as a 494. gary
Thats what I was thinking, More cubes, Cheaper stronger rods, And the crank is stronger that with the 494, It sounded like a win win to me, Thanks Gary
How many cubes can you get useing BBC rods? Also how much do you have to take of the crank? Thanks Gary
Is the thickness of the chebbie small and big block rods, the same as the big block buick rods? So as far as machining goes, I would really just need to have my crank offset ground to the bbc journal diameter, and the radius matched. Is this a process where it's best to send crank/rods/rod bearings to the machine shop so everything can be checked? Might as well have it all balanced too I guess. While you're in there... ou:
You guys were saying that if you stoke your crank you should girdle it, If you girdle it and fill it how much horsepower can the block take? Thanks Gary
