The pods haven't been built yet. They should be in today.

    GREAT JOB!
Thanks for posting the pics.Anyone else that has installed a stereo system on a ragtop that can post pics would be excellent.I am trying to get ideas without cutting up my original door panels(nice shape).I have seen these under seat speakers etc. but don't know about sound.I am a little older (44) than alot of members so it will be playing rock/jazz/reggae, as opposed to hip hop big bass sound. Thanks to all for your always great input.

I'm 40 so you're not too much older. I'm about sound quality, staging and crispness. Not BOOM BOOM BOOM.

I'm not touching the door with speaker. First off I have three window/door handles and that makes it difficult to place to begin with. Also, like you, I don't want to cut the door metal or panels.

My only suggestion is to get kick pods made custom so that your metal stays untouched.

I am going to have to move my bright light button from it's original spot though.

I'm picking her up at 8:00 tonight.

First Album in there will be Steely Dan or Grover Washington.

Thanks for the input.Good first choice on tunes.Steely was always ahead of pack on sound quality(Katy Lied my choice).Great color on car.My brother is in Granada Hills,he has a 68' Skylark rag and I have the 67'.He's considering colors, bodywork etc.Maybe we can hook up to check yours/ours out.Ours are daily drivers but will get there eventually.
    Have fun tonight!

Great work! I can appreciate the difficulty of getting a good sound in a convertible. Here is what I did in my trunk in the Spring of 2004:

Thanks for posting those pictures. I wouldn't have otherwise thought of those locations.

Are there any other speakers for the rear? How is the imaging? or, How are you trying to direct the imaging? It looks like the rear passengers will have good sound, but will any of the treble be effective towards the front?

I'm looking at replacing the radio in my Lesabre. It's the original AM Sonomatic which only had a single front speaker (now blown) so I wired a speaker that simply sits on the floor next to the tranny hump. I want more than just sound... otherwise that would be rather easy to do. I've been wanting to put a pair of 6x9's in the rear window, but I'd have to cut up the rear window tray. For the front I was thinking of using some component tweeters installed in the air vents. I was also thinking of putting the head unit under the dash. Now after several years of hemming and hawing around, I'm thinking of just going ahead with cutting the interior and doing a professional looking/sounding installation. I really want to focus on high quality imaging, I'm open to anybody's suggestions.

The car is an original 35K mile 4dr sedan with working factory A/C, and the 400 option. It has always been in the family, so I'm reluctant to change too much, but it has gotten to a point where the ride becomes very boring if it lasts more than an hour.

35k miles?? Please don't cut the dash...make a bracket and hang the head unit under the dash or something..

I understand where you're comnig from. My LeSabre has 42k miles, and the AM radio does not work. VERY boring ride. I will be replacing it with a factory AM/FM stereo from 1973, and probably adding a few stealth spotted speakers. I won't be cutting into anything you can see. I want to keep this car as stock as possible. It's really too nice to cut up.

    Adam,

That's been the real hanger for me for the last 3 years (when the speaker gave up). On the one hand it's a LeSabre, on the other hand this car has never been butchered. I did change the exhaust from single to dual because both of the original exhaust manifolds were cracked. At that time I also installed a TA intake, oil pump, pertronix HEI, that's about all. Then the following year I replaced all the original shocks, the rear springs, and new hides. All in all still trying to maintain a very stock appearance.

It's not rust free, but I had all the body work done 6 or 7 years ago. Nearly all the rust was hidden behind the lower stainless trim and small areas inside the trunk from the rear window.

I'd like to somehow figure out how to hide any speakers that are added. That's why I haven't done anything to it.

Glad to see there are other 4dr. sedan owners that treasure their car.

David, I lived in Granada Hills for 10 years. My girl still lives there. I'm in Van Nuys but I spend a lot of time in GH still...I like hanging with my girl.

Drop me a PM and we can hook up.

I don't know how the LaSabre set up is in the back but if you take a look at the 3rd picture, you'll see perforations in the rear and on the arm rest there's a tweeter. Tomorrow I'll post pictures of the kick pods at the floor.

The imaging is stunning. I had to set the fader one step in front because the rear speakers are closer to my head but other than that, sound is amazing.

I did cut the panel where the original stereo went. Had to. I didn't want a stereo hanging out below. Easier for the bad guys to snatch and grab. This is pretty much a daily driver (along with my 72 Blazer) so I wanted all the comforts of a daily driver including a stereo easily in reach.

Excellent! Do you have any more pictures of the front pods? I'm interested in how they were made. Also, how did you handle the parking brake?

That is very nice, but don't you miss the trunk? Then again, I don't think its your only form of transportation.
