Yeah that's right, much as it tears at my heart to do it I'm testing the water on my '71 Skylark GS Stage 1. Running it through a high end auction at potentially the peak time around these parts , coinciding with the Annual Cooly Rocks On week of festivities centred on older classic cars, 50's 60s Rock n Roll, it's fairly huge around these parts. The auction kicks off at 782 Motors on Wed 7th June with a cruise by our club, the Gold Coast Muscle Car Assn. from Coolangatta to 782 Motors at Nerang. My Buick was detailed a few days ago as part of the auction process and a video look over of the car is now up on YouTube. I'll attach a link. I see it's drawn criticism for having rusty hood hinges and springs!...I'm pretty sure it must be a trick of the light in the video playing on the raw phosphorised (as I've read on here hinges/springs) I'd like your opinions please, Also the bolts along the top of my radiator support panel are raw metal finish which I presumed was concourse have also drawn criticism for being rusty, again I think a trick of the light. A search on YouTube though shows a majority of 70/71 GS to have painted bolts in that area. My car is fairly correct I think although I'm no expert, but some of you people are. So I'm at your mercy, My tyres also drew criticism for not being BF Goodrich Radial T/A the RWL choice of most Aussies for Muscle Cars. Anyway, here's the YouTube video I'm talking about.
Wow! You car looks badass and amazing. The only thing I see that would have to go (for me) is that steering wheel. Otherwise, it's just perfect. Don't worry about what knuckleheads (like me) complain about. It's an amazing car that is clearly very well put together. Tires? Whatever! GLWS!
Nice, car! I like the tire combination, are those 295 on the back? Speaking of wheels the center sections look like there not chrome, might again be the video like the hinges. OK the bad for me only, I'm sure you like them but the steering wheel and tail pipes yikes . Hell i have stuff on mine i don't like. Good luck with the sale!
OEM chrome 15x7 Buick wheels had satin chrome centers and only the rims were bright chrome.Repos have chrome centers. Nice Buick......good luck with the sale....that's gotta be a rare car down there !! Peace WildBill
Dude does that car have factory rear shoulder seat belts? Other than the steering wheel which looks way out of place for a Stock car, looks quite presentable.
Never heard of GWLS? Thanks. Steering wheel I like, combined with the power steering it gives excellent feel at speed, car has all the handing options plus Koni adjustable shocks and carves through fast bends with ease. Power Disc brakes pull her up quickly
295 yeah , I had Dragway Engineering lathe out the centre of the rally wheels, which are a correct option, and weld in 10 inch bands. I had the calculate the backspacing which a lot of thought and measuring went into. Thanks for the well wishes, it'll be tough for me to see her go, but the money and the next cars will ease the pain, gotta be another Buick in there somewhere.
Thanks Bill!! Yes , correct on both mate. She's actually a bit too rare as most people haven't a clue what it is??? Even as a member of the Gold Coast Muscle Car Assn. Other members asking me if it's Olds, Pontiac, whatever. Those that know, know though! And it performs on the strip just as it would've in 1970. Matching Nos 455 is built to '70 spec, heads, cam etc
Yeah mate car has 6 Australian compliance seat belts, retractable in the front pair.. Is it unusual to have rear belts?
Wouldn't have been a factory option. As I said in my post that went astray For Australian Compliance to our road rules all cars made from 1971 had to have rear seat belts. Also for compliance they had to be brand new belts .
Thanks... original belts are still in the overhead clips and really look the business. It's just this may be the best time to sell, it's an auction, it's outta my hands and into the universe..
Ok last night I got my next door neighbour to post under the comment someone made about "rusty" hood hinges/springs, Said Buick used a process of Zinc Phosphate on them and the video lighting makes that finish appear to be rust... Info I found in here, Thanks
Thanks! .. Yeah...and it's a pretty rare car with these options and '70 spec matching numbers engine.
