Spend $10,000 on an engine. The largest sum I have ever paid for a fun item.

Jim delivers said engine to UPS Freight to send it from Minneapolis to Oregon yesterday at 11:00 AM

UPS Freight tracking says the crate has been delivered to James, yesterday.

Uhhhhh, no way that crate made it in 4 hours from Minnesota to Oregon.
Well sir, the tracking shows James picked it up.
No maam, James dropped it off yesterday and it is a physical impossibility for you to have delivered it 2000 miles away.
Well sir, maybe you should call back after 2pm Minnesota time and we can find the clerk that entered it and find out what happened.
Great, I will just sit here and worry for 2+ hours while you idiots try and find an 840lb wooden crate.

    Where are my tums?

Haha. Ya just hope Ace Ventura isnt delivering it! Seems like all these shipping companies are in disarray right now. I had a Christmas card take 3 weeks to come to me from 20 miles away!

I went with stock stage 1 heads. Had them rebuilt about 6 years ago at Eastco out in Gresham. Put the TA stage one springs that will take .500 lift and my cam does .490 so just under the line for standard springs and no machining needed.
430 HP and 520 lb ft of beast. Or whatever the numbers were in that other thread.

Yes. We can unload with a forklift here so that makes it a whole lot easier than if it were to come to my house.
Plus my car is stored at work.

Hey B-rock. I made that torque plate and never used it since I had Jim assemble my engine. If you want to use it, no problem. Just contact me here and we can meet up somewhere.

I feel for ya, I think I'm having sympathy pains. That's a lot of cash to potentially get lost in the mail. I have an order with Jim myself. Placed the order around the start of the time of the Covid. Wound up delivering the core myself because Fastenal shipping was shut down at the time. Your story is making me wonder if I should pick up the finished motor too if the time comes.

I sent mine in to him last December. Then covid hit, parts shortages, people shortages etc, but now it's done. It's not like all of that went to him, but I sent a lot of parts back, plus the torque converter and such, but yeah, I'm sure it was $10-11k of brand new value in that box, so when they messed up online, I figured, well I will just call to make sure.
    Then the panic attack. LOL.

I've been trying to get a fair estimate of expense on this project so far, and I have to be $17,500 by now. Add in the paint and interior and I will probably have $30k into my $15k car. HA. It's been fun tho, but a long 8 years so far.
I have a brand new MagnaFlow exhaust system, in the box that I only paid $450 for, so that shows how long ago that was, I think it is 650 now days.
I'm planning on it being done and on the road withing 18 months from now, so it's getting exciting.
oh well, I'm rambling. Peace out Buick folk.

Quality is remembered long after price forgotten always rings true ...I’ve got a little more than that in my jw built 482 trans & converter .. I’ve only had it out a few times I could tell right away the tireman is going to get a lot of money from me In the coming years

JW was going to check at his machine shop on the progress of my Tomahawk while he was in town dropping off your engine. Hope I get as good of news as you did.

I know its been done many times, but I just hate the idea of shipping a motor or trans after an expensive rebuild. I need to drop off and pick up.

It is a bit of an eye opener, but I'm sure as hell not driving from Oregon to Minnesota and back again to save $400 in freight.

Now if you are closer, that whole pick it up and drop it off thing sounds great.

So $400 to ship? Not bad, I think.

I forget the exact numbers, but yeah, it was under 400 for shipping and since he couldn't use his shipping box, he needed to build a crate too and that adds some time and cost to the whole thing also. But hey, I have a great place to store that engine now when it gets here.
