Well maybe between the excessive valve guide clearance and the chewed up seals leading to oil introduction....that might unseat the rings and might explain a quart every 200 mi?? o_O:confused:

    I say .005+ wiggle.
Is there even a k-liner in that guide in vid?
    .003 to .0035 too much.
    My guides were at
    .0012-.0013 intake,
    .0016-.0017 exhaust after sizing.

The heads may not be the whole story to your oil consumption issue, but it’s certainly not helping

It looked like it to me. I thought I saw brass. I'll check again..... I was told all were lined.

On second look, it might be closer to .010 wiggle.
You can hear the stem touch side to side.

Post number 16 I said it was the valve seals. I went on a 2500 mile trip with my car and put a quart of oil in it every gas fill up. That’s 1 quart every 200 miles. I had a different machine shop fix my problem and I’ve never looked back. I don’t know what my compression is but my car doesn’t burn any oil and I’ve beat the crap out of it for 30 years.

Wow that's a lot. But I don't think that would explain all your oil consumption.

Time to either buy a dial indicator or bring the head to the machinist. I like the idea of having the below done for the TA seals.

When the liners are installed the guide should have a "Step" in it to hold the liner in place.
Because of the normal side loading many times the liners fall out of place. Could be the brass your seeing.
Sorry, but it sounds like time to pull the heads again.

Yep, like trying to use bandaids on a compound fracture

So how do I explain that this is unacceptable to my machinist  I have a feeling he is going to tell me it is within tolerances. I will try to borrow a dial indicator when I have time.

I am still considering putting the seals on and try it for 200 miles.

Is there another machine shop somewhere near you for a second opinion?

Not that I know of. It took quite a bit of research to find this one. Other private options had about a year turn around time. I'm south of Chicago on indiana border.

I'll call machinist today to see what he says about this video I sent him.

Are you thinking the k-liners were installed incorrectly? I believe the brass i see in my picture is the top of the liners. Just a sliver of gold around the top of the boss.

    Machinist emailed back:
That is normal. The problem is the cut seals because that inner spring/dampener is rubbing them put it back together with your new seals and no inner spring/dampener and everything is going to work just fine.

Can someone explain the liners to me? I found this:
Is this acceptable for the BBB? If you have the head off, why not just replace the valve guides?

No, everything is not going to work fine!
Those springs have that inner damper in there for a reason.

Your really being thick headed about yanking the heads and getting them set up right, and your machist is feeding you a steamy pile of hot Bull crap!

Also at this point you still do not know if your Intake gasket is sealing as it should.

Tim from TA told me last week that those dampeners are not needed at all with my setup. He told me to install the 1433v seals I believe and the heads should be good to go.

Correct I don't know if intake is leaking yet.

Do not get rid of that inner spring no no!
the thing is burning oil like mad and the machinist says it is ok?!

At the very least check the heads and see if it is all ok before putting back together. Put the seals in see if it will go, it will either leak again or work and rings will seal. or take a crap
