Take him to the autobahn and race him for top end(it's obvious you would win). If his car is stock too, then I know you will win. Even on the race uphill you are talking about, if both cars are stock, you should win.

That motor came with 240hp stock so you might have a race if you're a 2 barrel guy.

One thing else, you gotta remember here, is that the SHO taurus is front wheel drive, and your skylark is rear wheel drive. That is an advantage, as well, since you do have a buick, I would be willing to bet you have more torque as well! Whatever the horsepower is in your lark, in SAE ratings, it can't be much lower than 240, since the 350-4 had about 290-295 HP, and the 350-2 had 260. In SAE ratings, it wouldn't be too much more than 35-to a 45 or so HP loss.(since the ratings from the factory of the skylarks were rated in gross HP) I have yet to see a fast front wheel drive car from the factory(without being MODIFIED from the factory or having something special on it like a supercharger or DOHC-and the DOHC, the taurus SHO does have). :Smarty:

One thing I can say, is go out there and race, and get it over with, and like I said, rear wheel drive is an advantage. If I were in your position, I would race him on topend that would be an almost guaranteed win. There are a few sho's running around here, and some of them didn't even mess w/ me when I had my 231 in :boring: ... :Dou:

It sould be a good race if you dont put the tires up in smoke. I raced a guy I worked with that had one against my 99 Neon R/T and would run door to door with him every time. We both had cold air intakes and if one of us had a pass. we would loose to the other that didnt by about a car length. My G-Tech told me that I could run consitent 15.2-15.4 and that might be were your lark is.

Good luck and have fun with it

the reason i know you will not win is i had a 74 century with a 455 and my buddy did have a sho and if we kicked it down going about 60 mph he would just pull away from me.you will never beat him with a stock 350.hope you do but i have serious doubts.my 2 cents Ray

    Read:

I hope you do know that the 74 century w/ the 455 stock had about 185 Horsepower! The '70 350 has about 290 if it's a 4 barrel and about 260 if it's a 2 barrel. The reason the 455 got beat by the Sho was that you had a smogged-up low-compression 455 running against a car that had about 60 more Horsepower and it was a few hundred pounds lighter, as well. Do the math. :Smarty:

UMMM....Cody I suggest you check out www.shotimes.com. Dustin has a couple SHO's and let me tell you this..His would kick my 350 GS's ass handily.Take a look on the site for Dr Evil's 160 mph video.I have it on my computer but have no idea how to post it up for all to see...1 word after seeing it..Impressive.Thes were 14 second cars stock and it doesn't take alot to go faster. I say he will get smoked so bad we wont hear about it anymore.

That is impressive, Pat! I wouldn't doubt it that it would beat a "stock" 350, especially since it came w/ DOHC(factory modification) and of course they had a few other goodies right from the factory, wether as on the other hand, an older car doesn't have those mods, a 350 from 1970 isn't going to have factory mods, since back then, factories didn't "throw-on" goodies like they do now days, and the sho is by far a good example of it! Not to mention, these show's probably already had EFI from the factory, as well! And 14 seconds in the 1/4th isn't very fast if you ask me. Now if it was 13 seconds, I might reconsider. Of course I suppose it's decent, but not "fast" by any means. In order to have a "fair race", I would say instead of racing it with a car with absolutely no mods from the factory(a stock skylark) and racing it against a ferd sho w/ plenty of mods from the factory, the only way to win is fight fire w/ fire, and to make it a fair race, the skylark would have to be 500 pounds lighter, it would need an EFI system, it would need a good cam(one that has good duration, although since the sho has a DOHC, it could never be made "fair" without a lot of money), and a few other tid-bits to make it even "fair" for the skylark to race a "sho". Just stating facts here...and a few opinions... :TU: What I said above though, I hadn't enough research to even back up what I was saying, but now that I have done a little bit of research, I take back the statements made above, although I still haven't seen a stock front wheel drive car that was fast! :Dou:

I understand what you are saying here but like me,sometimes people think their cars are "king" and say things and soon learn to regret it..I am not picking on you or anyone else or their cars.I just have ridden/driven them and Buicks as well. I will state this fact, I pulled several GS cars,Skylarks etc home and those SHO's are alot heavier feeling.I brought the first home and was shocked at just how heavy it really was.

Want a fair race? This car may be one exception to being a "fast(er)" frontwd car!

If the guy in the SHO wants some competition, this would be a fair car to race him in(and it's only a regal) :Do No: ..............................................................................................................................................................................................................

as far as a smogged up motor it was a 1972 motor which had 225hp stock and had a 342 posi rear and it ran 14.69 in the quarter mile.his sho was just as fast so as far as a stock 350 ,even being alittle lighter i highly doubt you willbeat the sho.everyone can guess what will happen until they race its all guess work.let him let us know when he does race so you will see the sho will win.Ray

"The only way to win is to fight fire w/ fire"...

Putting up a heavy non modded classical car up against a higly modified factory light(er) weight car, is not even fair. Now, take the Regal GSX Stage 3 up against the SHO, now that's a fair race. If Justin loses the race in the skylark, all he has to do is come up here and I have a buddy that his dad owns 1 of these and I have ridden in it a few times, not only is it luxurious, but it's insanely fast(it will put you through the seat almost). Im not afraid to admit that I have gotten my doors blown off a few times by these newer Regal GS's! I would hate to race against a Stage 3...but back to the real topic, like I said, this race isn't even fair, when you compare everything! You need to have comparable cars(although the GSX regal would smoke the SHO :Brow: )... :3gears: This race is sort of like me racing a lamborghini against a corvette, very uncomparable cars as far as stats are concerned. :Smarty:
