the other day I wanted to let my 72 car breathe a little from the other half of my holley 4 barrel. Found a low traffic area and opened her up. With abig smile on my face I shut her down only to look in the rear view mirror and saw the dreaded flashing red lites. To make this short I was clocked at 68 in a 30 zone. I will be 75 years old in Oct. and had to face my wife which is worse than any judge. After a couple of hours of agony, she promised to tell no one for a $1o0 bribe.I paid off quickly just to stop the agony. Court is in a month. I will let you know what happens with the real Judge. Thanks for reading this. Ken

You Sir are an inspiration. If I can still see well enough and am lucid enough to be still enjoying my Buicks and my wife. I will have had a great life!

Ken, just curious... how did the conversation with the officer go? Where they the type that acts all pissed off like you just ran over their pet dog or was it the kind who just enforces the laws but didn't take it personal? Or something else?

Don't you hate it when us "old folks" get the gas and brake pedals mixed up? I would have told him that I was in a hurry to get home to change my Depends. Did the cop write you for the full 68, or give you a break?

Your biggest mistake was doing it in a 30mph zone... Do it on the on-ramp to a 70mph interstate.

If I really felt the need Id find a industrial park or closed store with a huge open parking lot then let loose. Personally I have it made as there is a mile long single lane asphalt strip that starts at the end of my driveway and ends in a cul de sac. No houses or driveways in between mine and the end of the road.

Did you ask him if he by chance clocked your 1/4 mile time?

You should of told the officer that it was your son's car and you just borrowed it to get milk. Act bewildered and tell him you had no idea what happened. How fast??? Make an offhand comment how your son works on the car all the time yet the engine still runs "rough". A guy your age will have nooooo problem pulling it off! The officer would of probably told you to get the car back home and give the keys back to your son. :Dou:

That 30 zone hurt you big time. I'm guessing since you have to go to court he did not cut you any kind of break.
I believe the officer could have just wrote the ticket for a certain speed over the zone without a court appearance.

Just for humor I would have told him,
I guess next time I'll just put half the blue pill in the tank instead of a whole one.

Agreed! Sorry to hear you got popped, but I for one am impressed. I don't know if I'll make it to 75, let alone be out romping on hot rod Buicks!

Reminds of the time i got a phone call from a number I didn't know. It was a fella who said he was looking for a part for his Gs, and the engine builder gave him my number saying they knew I could get him what he needed. Turns out, it was a power steering pump bracket because this gentleman in his mid 70's finally was having a hard enough time parking his non power steering 4 speed Gs that he needed to add it! When he picked it up, we ran around the block and the first empty straight road he hammered it! I just told him I hoped to be him someday!!

You should have used my line :

When the cop said " I got you clocked going over 68 Miles Per Hour "

You should have said " Thats impossible Officer : I haven't even been out an hour "

Get a traffic court attorney to represent you. It will make all the difference in the world.

I'm pretty sure any more than 30 mph over a posted speed limit is considered wreckless operation of a motor vehicle. So 68 in a 30 puts you in that category.

Having been on the job for 25 years, here are a few tips that might help. Admit to nothing "No I was not aware I was going that fast". Ask the officer if he had you on radar. If yes, ask for records of when the unit was last calibratd as they have to be done every so often to be guaranteed accurate. Also ask the officer when was his last certification class to use the equipment was. They have to be certified to use it also, and that expires every so often. Questions like these will let everyone know you're no dummy and aren't just going to roll over just because "Deputy Dog" said so.

And go into court dressed like an old man. No power suits. Good luck.

Last time I had an invite to traffic court the prosecutor pulled me aside and offered to up the fine but no points or driving school etc. so it just cost me a small stack of :dollar: I took that option.

I had the same thing happen. They only want the MONEY. The day of the court appearance the cop pulled me aside and said If I paid the fine there would be no points.

Another time the State police and the municipal judge were hand in hand and I was guilt weeks before the hearing even though I brought a Lawyer with me that cost me $500. Its just a money making thing to them.

I plowed the back of a 14 Malibu with my work van. No injurys and the other driver was cool. Accidents happen. lady city cop comes. as shes handing me my ticket for "Following to Close" (was sitting at a red light) She says if I take it to court she wont show up and they will dismiss. She shows up and I get the fines and the court cost.Im like WTH? Judge did withhold the 4 pts

Definitely go to court! Several years ago I was stopped for speeding 38 in 25, according to ticket. Funny thing the speed limit sign said 30. Pictures of area for over one mile, overlapping. Judge looked at pictures, dismissed my case, and EVERY single speeding case that officer had written (It was a bunch of them in the same area, for about a month.) And then admonished the officer there in the court room!
