Don't worry about where the thread goes, I was just asking out of curiosity, but I was thinking(wondering) the same thing Jason mentioned, that maybe it was a bogus sticker, which it very well could be after hearing what Jason said about repro decals. In any case, for those of us who were in diapers back when these classes were run, a thread like this sure is informative:TU:
John, It was a stick. It ran mid to upper 14's. Tires and traction at tracks back in the 70's were not like they are today. The car was 100% stock with bias ply tires. I believe with the better tire compounds today and the traction treatments used at the track it probably would have been able to go low 14's maybe a high 13 in the right conditions. Randy
thanks randy , should have asked what rear gear also ? mines 3.91 at the moment, i'm going to put 4.10's , possibly 4.30's, in it for this year . i've gone a best of 14.18 with repop bias plys and the only mod being a 2.5" mandrel bent exh , NO H OR X PIPE , 56k original miles at stanton last sept. . i feel its got 13's in it , when i pulled the front of the motor apart last fall i found the timing chain was pretty loose , might have been able to remove it without taking off the gears ? sorry for the NON OLDS hijack of the thread . :Comp:
John, Mine had about 50,000 on it when the nylon teeth fell apart, I put Cloyes steel gears and double roller chain on it. Also, I had a '68 340 GTS 4 speed that the original owner raced when new. His dad owned a Dodge dealership in Ohio. He managed a 13.90 on the redlines. Quite an accomplishment for back then. Tom won't mind the hi-jack. Randy
