Hey guys figured I'd give you a quick run down on this camshaft. Its listed as a 2000-5200 powerband camshaft, and that is basically spot on in my car so far although it will still pull hard up to 5500 so far. It is a touch soft right off idle with my stock converter, but once it hits 2000ish it pulls good and is MUCH stronger from around 2500 up. It has good idle vaccum 15" with no vaccum advance hooked up and the base is set at 16 degrees. This cam has a noticeable lope to it but nothing crazy, I like it!

I got this cam with nitrous use as its main intention, but it is FAR better then the stocker in almost every way.

I will be at Atco this sunday for the Buick/Ford day to see what kind of ETs this new cam will produce. It is the only engine change I"ve made to the car. Headers will come later.

How big of a shot are you going to give it? 150? 200?

I'm probably only going to get about 5 passes in so 150-175 shot.

What happened to the progressive 400 shot?

Very interesting, I am excited to see how much the cam helps your combo! The headers should wake things up even more, looking forward to that as well!

Not enough fuel pump! Plus this is the first time out! My plate/solinoids will flow around 300 if necessary. I have all those jets available to me as well so don't be surprised to here my later this year put in 100 jets!!!

Yes, please keep us posted! I'm thinking of going with this cam too. Or the Lunati 67002. Haven't decided yet. I'm going with headers and a port job on the heads aswell. And a correct stall converter (2200-2500-ish stall).

Will be very interesting to see what this cam will do to your car and it's ET's :3gears:

I think you got your links mixed up - the middle one would be the roughest, as it has the biggest duration, largest lift and narrowest LSA.

The second cam while bigger than the first and third is supposed to have a "fair idle" compared to the third cam which is smaller and they quote "very chopy idle".

The middle cam is going to have to most lope - its got the most overlap (3*)- the larger duration and narrower LSA are key pointers to that - and therefor, cause the roughest idle. The first one has 0* of overlap, and the last one doesn't say any valve timing events :(

However - of al the cam's i'd bet the last one would run the best for its size - its got more agressive lobes than the other two, and the wider lsa should stretch out the power a little. definitly my choice for a cam out of the three.

I agree the thrid cam looks very good for its size. Nick picked the first cam due to having a stock tq converter and the nitrous use.

The Lunati 67003 cam sounds SICK!

Short update. I need more fuel. My previoius nitrous tuneups were lean and detonated. I made 5 totally different passes. First one of the trailer went like this.....yanked the wheel 1.66 short time, 12.44 at 105.5. This was with the 150 jet setup that I previously used. Pass number 2 started to lift the wheel then spun the tires some but still went 1.71 short time 12.50 at 106, but this was with the 175/180 setup. After this pass I pulled plugs and found lots of unhappy detonation going on. So I pulled 3 more degrees of tiiming and went back down to the 150 tuneup again. Yanked the wheel again was going to ET in the 12.40s again, but I stood on the brakes topend(bracket racing). This time I put the air cleaner back on it, launched good but ran low on nitrous fell off to at 12.70 but passed the Mustang at the stripe! Now the last pass.....junk the tires blew off so bad I slowed to a 1.87 short time worst I've run with the car in 2 years...and only ran a 12.60 but lost to a Buick.

Moral of the story the roughest Buick at the track today went 4 rounds in the brackets and won alittle money, first time ever. I put a very nice looking GN on the trailer, 2 Fords, and maybe earned alittle respect for this almost stock SBB....The tech guy gave me a big thumbs up when I opened the hood especially after I told him I had around a 100 pass on the setup!!.

The car will have to go the track again on a better organized day to get some better results to prove out the HP gains that I beleive this new cam has given me.

I think that you get about 4 good runs on a bottle of nitrous with that much jetting. What was your jetting numbers between the nitrous and the fuel. I think my jetting was 62 nitrous and 57 on the fuel and 6 lbs of fuel pressure. That was with the 125 shot.

I wonder if you are starting to hit the point where you need to port the heads to start to go faster or do you think it is just a little more tuning is needed with the fuel. Are you using the stock type plugs r42 or r43t. I would try the NGK plug as you will find with these plugs that the "j" strap is a little wider and take a little more from the nitrous.

How much timing are you pulling out to make the 175 run? Are you just pulling it out before you make the run or do you have one of those controllers that pulls it out for you. I have a controller but I never hooked it up yet. Check out this site for more info on plugs. www.dragstuff.com/techarticles/how-to-read-plugs.html
Here is another spot that has nitrous plugs.

AS for timing I wasn't pulling enough! In the end I pulled 8 degrees. I have a MSD Digital 6 box.

Good Links for reading plugs. I had shiny metal flakes on the plugs!!!! YIKES Thats piston!!

For all the little issues I had all day, I really shouldn't complain I hadn't driven the car since Nov....drove to work, put the cam/springs in, short drive, drove home, loaded the car on the trailer went directly to the track and first untuned pass yanked the wheel and went 12.44!! Felt strong.
