Where would I go on this site to find any or all specs for a 1966 riviera GS? I mean, is there a section or a thread that I overlooked giving me all kinds of info on them?
I can tell you some.....'66 Rivs are my specialty:grin: The standard 425 is rated 340 HP, 465 ft/lbs. of torque (hence, wildcat 465) The dual 4 barrel is the same, except 360 HP, (super wildcat) Non-GS were usually 3.07 rear gears(stamped 'pj'), GS were usually 3.42 Posi. (stamped 'py' I think) You can check if it's posi by looking on the rear end cover. There will be a silver tag hanging from the rt. side that says"use limited slip lube only". (assuming some idiot didn't remove it and throw it away). Other gear ratios were available, naturally. That's hard to check because the stampings on the axle tubes are hard to read. I have the codes if you need them. If in doubt, just do a burn out to check it. Both tires should spin. Quick ratio steering was installed on some GS models, I'm not quite sure how to check this, but it should be about 2-1/2 turns stop to stop if it's this one. I think the standard one is 3-1/2 turns. Stiffer springs were part of the GS option, no way to check this. There should be a chrome air cleaner and alluminum valve covers on the motor also. The ornament on the glovebox should say "Riviera GS" There also should be a wooden 'rally' steering wheel with a chrome center cap that has an 'R' in the center. Valuable peice. Am I forgetting anything? Oh yeah, this car is cool.
awesome! Thanks!! Do you know if it was coil, or leaf springs in the rear. Ill know more Saturday when I pick mine up....
r0ckstarr79, Riviera's have coil springs at the rear. PM me your e-mail address, so I can mail you a few scans of roadtests and other info about the 66 Riv. What's your first name, by the way o No: ? Put it in your signature, we go on a first name base on this board p
I don't think leaf springs ever came on a Buick. Not on any that I am familiar with anyway. Usually they were used on lesser cars where the ride quality wasn't important.
Ok, mine has everything you listed, including the tag on the rear-end. The only thing is doesnt have is the steering wheel you listed. Thanks Alot! :3gears:
Sounds to me like you got a real GS.:TU: Perhaps the wood wheel was sold before you got the car. Those are valuable, I think one might sell for $200-300. That chrome air cleaner is in demand also, I sold mine when I got the dual quads. Good luck with your Riv, and happy motoring!:beer
Thanks, larry. Some very interesting facts there. I noticed the 1/4 mile time for that car was 16.7 secs. with the dual 4's. On the musclecarclubs.com website I was on today the single 4 model was rated at 16.2 secs. Go figure. Anybody got a stopwatch I can borrow?
Actually, There is a Cars magazine road test of the 67 Riv, with the 430 Engine, and single 4bbl. 16.10@87 MPH. They don't give the detailed spec sheet that Road& Track did. All these road tests are in a book entitled Buick Muscle Portfolio 1963-1973. Really interesting reading.

Thanks, guys. I would have paid for that info!:TU: One thing I noticed, in this article they bragged about the Riv's brakes. On the "musclecarclubs.com" website, the test quoted by them rated the braking on this car as "poor". Guess it depends on who does the test.:Brow:
1967-5 Luxury Speciality Cars Joe, Here a '67 Riv (single 4 bbl) in a 1967 test. I think it's getting better credit here...<img src="http://4d5.net/boardimages/cool.gif"> <img src="http://img8.photobucket.com/albums/v23/Buickclubholland/Scans/5Cars.jpg">
