Taken today. Just shot, not color sanded or rubbed out yet. Unbelievably straight.

    Clones

    Can't imagine why!

It's funny how similar these two cars are (yours and mine). Actually both were owned by the same person here for a while. Yours started off bronze with a black vinyl top, this one was green with same black vinyl top.

Biggest difference, though is your car has A/C and this one's a heater only. Otherwise they're almost duplicates (or soon will be).

    Thanks, Donny.

Nice Dave, looking forward to seeing it done :TU: 66'S are nice looking cars.

Were about a week behind you with our 71 GTO :3gears:

That color combo with 3 deuces is a killer. I like GTOs so I drove ours to a GTO show. The local GTO club is full of some real *&#@! They would not let me onto the lot with the 442 even though it was held at the longtime Olds dealership which post Olds acquired the Pontiac dealership. So I parked on the street. When the crowd saw that 442 the whole lot emptied of the spectators which then crowded around the 442 on the street. The GTO owners were left alone with their respective cars. The crowd said we can see the GTOs anytime but these 66 442s you never see. And that is so true --the 66 442, the 1966 C stock champ, almost forgotten, even though quicker than the 66 GTO.

    Wow

Dave looking good. You know that is my favorite model and working on a F-85 Track Pack Black with turquoise vinyl interior, rubber mats, poverty caps and radio delete. Car is a true Track Pack car. Sent flynbuick pix last night of the body and seats. Should be finished by summer. John

    Erwin:

I posted pics of my red 68 W30/Hurst on here numerous times, sorry to bore the rest of you. It hasn't progressed much since last year when we moved, just still gathering parts. Got everything now except bumpers need to be plated, and some interior stuff (door panels, headliner. Got rid of everything else here, down to just these three cars.

Car was originally a 4 speed (like all my cars) and leaning strongly toward putting it back together as one. Have a new TCI Turbo 400 and a dual gate sitting next to it, though.

Thanks, John. I also really like the 66's. Black really brings out the lines well especially on the quarter panels and C pillar. I think the 66-67 GM A body cars are the best looking ever, with the 64-65 right behind.

That color combo on your F85 may sound wierd to some, but not every car from that era had black interiors. It was the most popular, though. I'm very partial to the yellow/yellow/yellow 67 442's (especially the convertibles). They even had yellow convertible tops.

    Jim:

That sounds like fun. Drive the Olds to a different make meet and if they don't welcome you in, park right next to it. We had a few anal retentive Olds guys that were that way with other makes, too.

There's a shyster collector car lot near here (Roger Peck) that has some great cars when you drive by at 30 - 50 MPH, but not that great when you get up close. Used to love to drive my red 65 442 convertible up there and park it out front while we walked the lot. Always drew a crowd and pissed them off. One time a real sleazy looking guy came over to look at it and said that he had a 68 red 442 W30 convertible in his garage back home and it was for sale. Needed a lot, but all there and correct. Friend bought it that day for $3k. Just completed a frame off in Phoenix and is gorgeous.

Jim: That looks fabulous with the SS1 wheels. Personal feeling is it's much better than the dog dishes that were on it. Gives me great inspiration to get off my butt and get it finished. It's a lot closer than the 68.

Actually my brother in law, Gary, did the car, I just set up the purchase, sold him the correct stuff that it was missing and supervised the restoration. I never could understand why he didn't want to charge up the A/C on it. At one point he wanted to convert it to a heater only car like mine, but I wouldn't let him.

Here's one more that I sold to pay for my daughter's first year in college about 5 years ago. Converted it all back to numbers matching stock (including the original 2 spoke wires) and sold it to a friend here in Detroit area. He still has it. Last one, I promise.

man, you guys are killing me here with these beautiful cars, while I'm stuck with my rusted, running and recently rebuilt engine 69 W-31. I need to turn down the resolution on some of my pics and see about posting them here as I'm sure lots of people would be interested in seeing it. I actually JUST got my OAI setup from Mike Siedlik yesterday, so I'm excited  I called him monday and told him to ship it to my work. Turns out he was driving from Nebraska to the Chicago area and only going be like a mile from where I work, so he dropped them off. Too cool!!!! :TU: I'm hoping to be able to install the under bumper scoops this weekend.

Good question. Probably the black 66 if I get it together in time. Red car was disassembled a lot more (body off frame) so a lot farther away. Black car was only supposed to be a paint job. If not, will bring the lumpy old Ramrod. May run some very interesting numbers this year, getting some help from the "Master". :bglasses:

Chris: No matter what, it'll look a lot better than any other 69 W31 there. Betcha if you bring it to one of our Pure Stock/FAST/Factory Stock meets, you'll be very motivated to make it go look like it'll run :TU: !

Miller: Sold that 71 GTO yet?

Speaking of running the black 66 did you see where the guy with the Bambaugh 66 442 Olds is still at it in the northeast? I think he was C stock champ for a time with the car back in 66. In a recent article I think it said he was running in the 11s ? in a stock class in 2004.

    Nice work Dave..

I always enjoy seeing a car being painted properly.. (disassembled)

Lots of folks don't grasp exactly how much work it takes to really paint one correctly, posts like this tend to educate nicely.

    Wow Dave!

Dave the 66 is looking good :TU: And while were talking Olds do you have any "extra" wheel well moulding for a 68. Need all four. Don,t need nos. Thanks Noel

Thanks, Jim. We found some hidden worm holes around the glass on this 44k original car (vinyl top car). This is the only way to do it, but sure gets pricey real fast.

Noell. I may have a few extra pieces when I'm done (try a whole garage full)  Good straight w/o moldings are getting hard to find, you may just want to have yours restored. They're stainless and some people can do wonders with that stuff. Haven't approached the mountain of stainless out back, need to do that.

Jim: The early 400's are very sweet engines, love to rev (lots of hp up there and can run lots of gear), and are almost like a larger version of the W31 (which of course, came a little later). If I can keep the weight down on this car (and shave a few off myself  ) this car should run very well in Pure Stock trim. An F85 post car like John's would really be killer.

I recall a lot of 66 442's and GTO's running C stock years ago. Lots of the 442's had 425's and the GTO's had 421's out here (cheaters). They flew! There's still a lot of them running at the Dick Miller meet at Norwalk, and the Mondello meet at Byron. I plan to make both this year. Awesome events.
