We decided a couple of weeks ago to have a model car "build-off" at our shop. It had been over decade since any of us had built one, so we got pretty jazzed up about it. Enough, in fact, that my wife decided to join in and build her first model ever! Today was the due date, so we brought 'em in, Aaron took some pics, and posted them to our site: Graphic Arts Model Car Build Off I'm sure there are some folks on this board that could easily outshine our skill, but it would be tough to have more fun than we did!
It is a fun hobby. I have been building models for 30years. They are so avanced any more some are down right beautiful. with laquer paint the hole nine yards. Tim
... lookin good:TU: ive built them for maybe 14 years , it is quite fun. just not enough buick models, used to have a gsx available but i cant find it anywhere now (exept special orders)
Joe, Nice model cars! I actually won $1500 in a model car contest seventeen years ago. Used it to buy a 71 Cutlass supreme. I wish I could do it again. That is, win the money and buy a car.
I'm an avid model builder and collector and spend alot of time between the V8buick.com message board and another excellent message board with model building fanatics from around the world, the Hobby Heaven message board is like a second home to me. If you enjoy buildin' and talkin' about model cars consider this an invitation to drop by the HH board for a chat. Take a minute to review the board rules, then post away. Here's the addy for it: http://www.modelcarkits.com/cgi-bin/webbbs/board.cgi Plus I also have a gallery of some of my work on a photo hosting site, feel free to drop by and check it out, there's something for everyone's automotive tastes on there, plus car shows, rusty relics, etc. Here's a link to it for you to check it out. http://public.fotki.com/buickjef/
Too Cool!:bglasses: I like to build model cars as I would build it as a real car. I don't mean just "detailed" like a real car, but with the "options" that I would build it with (like Suicide Doors, or Flip Front, or whatever). The picture of the Dark Blue '65 Riviera is similar to the one I've been working on as a Pro Street. I used a '65 Chevelle Pro Street Chassis underneath the Riv, and put a Dual Quad 455 from the GSX Street Machine kit in it. I think it would be cool to have an "online" model car contest. It could be "judged" just like a real car show, as far as "Categories" (Stock, Street Machine, Custom, Pro Street, etc.). We could build the cars, post pics, everyone votes for the "best" ones, and the winner gets a model car of their choice, or a gift certificate to a hobby shop, or "something" related to Model Cars.o No: :bglasses:
This is one of those"will I ever do it" projects. Its an original AMT craftsman 66 GS sitting on Revell 67 Chevelle pro street chassis. Has potential don't you think?
I threw this 70 WC together fast for a contest. I did not win. I did this like a dozen years ago, so forgive the gay toy wheels. Pegusus wasn't making lowrider wheels yet. I was going with a fiftes theme with what were supposed to be Tru-spokes and a classic corral and black two tone, albeit with a twist. I never did neaten up the flames with a pinstripe. O well.
I guess I could try to finish it for the BPG event in august. Maybe we should have a huge model display? No judged show please. Lets do it for fun!!!!!!!
I used to build model cars now my kits are 1:1 scale and cost a whole bunch more:Brow:. The only problem with these full size kits is all the pieces are not there and are a bitch to find.
Those wheels are included in the AMT Buyer's Choice '69 Riviera kit, there's also a set of Vector style alum rims in that kit that would be good for a wheel swap if anyone wanted to use them on a T-Type Regal conversion from the Revell GN kit.
... last one...only model i ever took 1st place with at a contest, this picture actually came out descent
