Nice work! love that insulation. last time I shoved the shop vac up there first, Then hit it with the air gun and waited for things to settle before diving in. I wonder if anything can be applied to those lenses to help protect and preserve them?
Thry make really nice lenses. The chrome base too. If you look at the aquamist's sail panel lights, they're repros. New ones really brighten up the interior
That's a good question. You don't wanna mess with them too much or your calling Todd for some new ones. I did clean them up and blew them off before popping them back in. As for the insulation, Ames Pontiac sells (what appears to be) the best replacement available. I may or may not do that going forward.
I haven't updated in a while because my phone decided to save photos in a file extension not supported by the board. There's more than one way to skin a cat, though... Nonetheless, the rocker moldings got a good scrubbing recently, along with some 3M tomato colored tape. Some serious elbow grease went into these and luckily, there wasn't a single dent on either one. They cleaned up super nice. 0000 steel wool combined with the aforementioned elbow grease works wonders, as does a good chrome polish. Overall, I'm happy with how they came out, as they'd been a subtle eyesore for a while.
I like the 3M tape idea, want to do similar for the red strip in my '67 Special's grille. Where did you source?
Thanks, fellas! It's 1/4 inch pinstripe tape. I got that roll on eBay but auto parts store should carry it.
I spent a few hours detailing/cleaning for the first big show of the season tomorrow and added the OEM trunk mat Cook sent me last year. I won't use the mat regularly but combined with the patina'd tire board, it has a nice original, 53 year old look to it.
Thanks! That's been the goal since the outset. The right amount of original to preserve as opposed to restore. Some things I couldn't overlook, though. Replacing the carpet was a Godsend in terms of stench and redoing the buckets is something I'm also glad I did. Sitting on the floor sucked. This is probably a solid 10 or 20 footer because of the bubbles from the circa 1973 clear coat covering the mostly original paint but I have no plan on ever having it painted. More so because I don't want to end up in body shop jail for 2 years and it's only original (ish) once.
Go ahead and buy a trophy case. You're going to need it for all the awards you'll be taking home this year.
