Gary- Boy, showing me that window rattler yesterday really got your juices flowing! It was fun- I ordered the ring set. I still think it was your fault for bringing it up about the brittle ring- it couldn't have been me!

I know, hated to sell it,wish I had a car to put it in, but someone else will make good use of it.
I should have told you the rings were indestructable then we'd have no problems. :)

Yup, I recall clearly when there was no TA catalog, and KB's was mighty thin.. we have gotten spoiled over the years with all the stuff that is just a phone call away now, from TA.. It wasn't so long ago that you had a choice in cylinder heads.. Iron, or Iron.. and if you were lucky, (and really old) you had or knew somebody with Iron STG 2 heads.

I distinctly remember fitting the KB rocker shaft gridles to my KB roller rockers.. those were interesting to say the least.

And I think you were in your 30's when you bought that stuff..

And that Mark 4 cam was always fun to look at.. with the lobe placement and C/L it looked like some lobes were missing on it..

I ran 10.30's with that cam in my 3100lbs Regal, with ported Iron STG 1's as late as 1999, as I used either the KB, or a Lunati copy of that cam for virtually all of my drag race motors, from the late 80's on thru 90's.

I tried the Mark 5HB and the Mark 5 S, but they never went faster than that old Mark 4 grind. I always went back to the Mark 4, and after my KB one wore out, I sent it to Luanti and had them make me a copy.

The only cam that outran it was the TA 308S, that we switched to in 2000.

We could only dream of the HP that I regulary build now in street motors with aluminum heads..

I always wonder how fast one of my cars would have went, when I pull some 650-700 HP motor off the dyno.. I think the most we ever had was about 550 HP..

I might actually get the time to find out, one of these days..

    Good luck on the sales.

Jim, I too never gained anything over the mark4,tried a mark7 and the XR1,whatever that was, minimal gain so always put the venerable 4 back in.The specs on that cam was 260/260 on a 105 lobe center, only .540 lift.
what you mean 30 at the time,Willis?I was 16!! don't you go backwards after you hit 40?
Heck I'm less than 9 in dog years.
I was doing 575 hp at the time with iron stage2's ,600hp was hardly ever heard of back then. Yep,your regal and Thumper could have run 9's with todays technology.

    Ya.. 16..

When you were 16 David Buick was still putting porcelain on bath fixtures..

    :pp

Seriously, although I like to give you a lot of grief about your age, you were born at just about the right time.. you got to see the stuff new, and buy it, and then got to race all thru the evolution of race parts and cars, to where we are today..

I was too late, by the time I got to this stuff, all the old guys like you had scarfed up all the Iron STG 2 stuff, but then again I am old enough to have bought a complete, running 70 GS455 for $300, so I guess I shouldn't complain..

I guess I am just jealous that you got to buy STG 2 heads over the counter for $150 each, or whatever they were back then..

By the time I was old enough to want them, they were 10x that price, if you could find a set, and got a smokin' deal..

Welp, us young folks have to get back to work...

I had 3 sets of those iron 2's,paid less than $600 per set back then, complete.the other set I traded parts for.Sold 2 sets to board members, will keep the last set.
Saw the evolution of buick parts suppliers from Kennedy-Bell to Kenne-Bell to TA.TA is by far the best, most progressive and has done the most for us buick enthusiasts.Where would we be today if they didn't step up to the plate.
You youngun ,needs to get his car back to the track and enjoy some racing, life is too short and work can wait.I've never seen a car hauler behind a hearse.
Merry Christmas,Jim and hope you have a prosperous 2010.
