Interest in a run of 300/340 shorty headers

    Justa350 I'm BACK!

I'm not talking about block huggers, but I'm not very confident that full length headers from a donor are going to clear the frame and accessories. I was thinking the intermediate length would show a good performance increase, but offer an easier fit.

Maybe we'll get lucky and some Ford Mustang or Falcon headers will fit. There certainly isn't a lot of room in those engine bays so maybe it would work.

I wish I still had my '65 Skylark. I could build a set for it, and our questions would be answered! :)

    Mark,
Have you attempted the Buick 340 flange or complete long/short headers yet? I am interested and reveiwing my options as my factory manifolds are completely cracked up and the noise is embarassing.
    Thanks,
    -Drew

I think you'll get more interest once you post a mock-up and discuss the finishes, with some possible pricing.

    Thanks for doing this!

How bout some headers for a SBB 350 in the 64-67? I got a 65 that I'm gonna modify later model headers for. Unless somebody comes up with a set for the 65 with 350.

Did you consider looking at what's already out there for the 215 and Rover engines? Some of those might be real close to what you're looking for. When I built my 215 headers I sized them for a potential move up to 5 liters (300) so when the 340 goes in the car they should be just fine. Those run 1-3/8" primaries. I'm pretty sure you can find something in a 1-1/2" tube already available.

I decided to bite the bullet and ordered a set of Rover V8 swap headers from Hedman for my 67 340.When they show,I'll tell you how well they fit.I'm a Ford guy,the 67's for the wife,I'll go dig through my header pile and put one against one of my heads and pass on the measurements.Seems to me there was an issue, but I don't recall what it was.
On the long vs. shorty, virtually every 5.0 litre Mustang out there runs with shorty's and they seem to do OK

    Hi Eldon,
I have a 67 340 that I'm also looking to get headers for. I was also eyeing the Headman 3.5 L Rover headers but I held back because of the unknown fit. Please let us know how they fit.
    Thanks,
    -Drew

Grabbed the only pair of 302 headers I had,(I'm a stroker big block guy-600 c.i. alum. Boss 429 going into a 07 Shelby Mustang for Top Sportsman) of unknown origin.Because my frame is out under the snow and the body is in the garage, I'm not able to verify steering column ,frame and starter interference.
From what I saw it looks like the front 2 pipes have to go about 3/4 in. forward and the back 2 have to move 3/4 in. back. The Buick's spacing between the ports is not even like the Ford is. On a long tube(which I have),bending the pipes to match the Buick port spacing looks easy to do.The other issue is the angle of the port face is different .When you cut the old flanges off you can allow for that.I don't have a 302 head here to measure the difference but memory tells me it's close.By changing the angle of the cut,you can adjust the side-to-side clearance as well which could be useful.Fords generally have fairly narrow engine bays so all it might take is finding the right application 302/351 header.

Are the 215/300/340 headers interchangeable? i.e. are the bolt patterns and port alignments the same?

I have heard the "block huggers" were made by TE Industries. Anyone know of them or where they are located and phone number?

Great info, thats what we are talking about for a header. Mark can have the flanges made and set up all the SBB people!

The bolt pattern and alignment is identical, but the 340/300 has somewhat larger ports and higher deck heights. That shouldn't be an issue. Here's the vendor directory from the British V8 website:

Most of these suppliers have multiple sources for headers of different types. You should have no problem in finding one that will fit.

Who made the long tube 300/340 headers for Poston? Could they be contacted for another run if theres enough interest? I would be intrested in some long tube or mid length .

Well I solved my exhaust manifold dilemma, but first let me digress. I bought GS 340 Ca. Special with terribly cracked manifolds; in fact one fell apart when I removed it. At any rate, this weekend was the Good Guys Spring Meet and Swap Meet at the Alameda fairgrounds in Pleasanton California. At the swap meet I found one seller that had a set of BSB manifolds. When I asked the old-timer how much he asked me if I knew what they were and then he went on saying something about having to haul them to the last 5 swap meets without one inquiry. In the end he said Give me $5 and get them out of my sight. I guess there is a God and he must drive a Buick! I would have given him $50 each. At any rate whenever someone makes a run of 340 headers Im still interested.
BTW... last week O called Poston and they told me to check back in a couple of months.

That's what they told me 2 years ago! Poston's is a joke and won't get any of my business if I can help it. If they don't plan on making another run, then just say so. Why jerk customers around like that? JMO

    Glad you found some manifolds.

This may be of some interest here........BBC header with flange cut off and up against a 340 head.
