Driving the Turbo to work for a couple of weeks because the wifes car is in the body shop and she's driving my van (hit and run but I found where he lives on the internet). That's another story.

The sun is low in the sky behind the trees and the blistering daytime temp is gone so I have the windows open and the A/C off (I like to hear the turbo scream like an eagle on steriods). I'm coming home north up 34th Street past UF and get caught at the light at Radio Road. Three lanes wide and I'm in the middle lane with about a third of a mile with no driveways or cross streets to Second Avenue the next light. So on the left a Del Sol pulls up and eyeballs the T. Typical rice but nice black paint with black and red rims. Looks pretty good actually and I nod like "cute car". He's buzzing the fart can which I find extremely annoying.

Then I hear this extremely loud, earsplitting, awful, raspy, buzzing, open exhaust and can't figure out where it's coming from becasue the only thing rolling up on my right is a mid 90's Nissan Sentra. He blipping the throttle to 4-5K. I had to roll up my passenger window. Why in heaven's name would you run an open piped Sentra?

The two ricers are both buzzing the throttles getting ready to launch and I'm thinking every cop for half a mile can hear this. I let them go just staying a car length back. The Del Sol driver has the top off and the back window down. He looks over to see where I'm at and actually grins at me like "I got you"!

That tears it! I promised myself I would not get involved with goofs like this but I go supersonic. The turbo screams, the alky light comes on telling me the pump is running and the system is pressurized and spraying, The boost guage spins to 26#, I hear the waste gate release some manifold pressure, the trans backs down to first, the scanmaster blinks 2-3 degrees of knock retard for a half a second when the trans locks first and loads the motor, the rear suspensions does it's thing, the back end squats down and I blast between them like they were backing up. No tire spin, no tire squeal or tire smoke, just hook, lift the front end to the suspension stops and gone. I put 8-10 lengths on them in a couple of seconds, let off at 55-60 and coast the few hundred yards to the next light. The Sentra is still at WOT annoying the whole world going maybe 35 mph.

I'm waiting at the light for these two clowns and looking for GPD. Thank God cops have no idea what a White Limited T is.

The Honda makes a left, the Sentra goes right and neither of them even look at me.

I know, I know it really wasn't a race and I should not even have wasted the cup of alky but that Del Sol driver really ticked me off when he believed he was beating the T.

I know what you mean, I went to a car show in Williamson WV, last weekend and it was more of a joke, probably 10 cars before 1990, they were nice but there were a ton of ricers, All they had were fart cans and a paint job, then there were some 2000 and up mustangs that sound awful loud and shrill i did like as they were leaving one missed a gear and it was not a good sound, ha ha

    Congrats man,

Not much can come close to an 11 second car on the street that hooks, I bet it was pretty awe inspiring for them.

I know exactly what you mean. Nothing irks me more than a damn Nissan 4 door with 100 hp and open exhaust...

Ricers make car guys look bad. Nothing else to say.

Hahahaha great story, their jaws were probably on the floor of the car.. it's good to see ricers get put in their place.. the underbelly of the car society...

oh yeah, two more are educated.

Reminds me vaguely, many years ago. My '64 425 Riv could beat about anything off the light, circa 1983. I accelerated fast off the light next to a stock looking monster sized older station wagon. He shot past me and I gave it all I had, and he got me. Never found out what was in that wagon.

The really sad thing is these Ricer gys problay dont have a clue what real power and performance is all about. The fast and furious crowd really needs to wake up. Maybe UF has a muscle car history 101.
Ill be driving my Riv down that same strech of road next Tuesday.

It is still inspiring for me and I've had the set up for 8 years when she went 11.22 and 11.23 before the track officials told me to park it (no cage). The new motor has a bit more should go high 10's and I want one 10 second time slip.
My 16 year old son goes ape when I throw him the keys and say "you drive" (I turn down the boost).

A friend of mine here in G'ville has a beautiful yellow 66 Chevelle putting 776 hp to the ground (on Rollin's chassis dyno) and runs in the 9's on pump gas. Now that car is awe inspiring on the street. He scares himself regularly and my T felt slow after we cruised in his for about an hour. A screaming yellow, blown 406 small block with a 4" exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheels is not stealthy but no one will try him anyway. You can't hear yourself think in his car but the look of everyone around you is worth the suffering. My whole house shakes when he pulls in the driveway. I'm not sure I could live with a vehicle that radical.

    It is all relative!

Thats NUTS! I go ape whenever dad lets me take is 350 horse 396 4 speed nova that runs low 13's out for a burn. I've gone way to fast in that, and could probably smoke just about any jap scrap on the road. I can't even comprehend an 11 second car on the street:p:3gears:

I the same as you when I drive the GN. I usually won't give them a race unless they think they are beating the old Buick, then I let it fly!

You aim a low 11 second or faster car you don't drive it.
And you never gas on it before you pull out to pass.

Cars like my T are pulling just as hard at 130 as they are at 70. My 72 Stage 1 ran a 12.84 and is much more fun on the street. I have got to make it my avatar.

    Great line.:TU:

I drive my low 9/high8 455 Nova on the street all the time. Since it is a tube framed car with 65 inch wheelie bars and a cam appropriate to the power level(uhh...choppy?)I don't get alot of offers to run off a stoplight. lol

I do however find that it's hilarious when I do give a rare fun ride in it and the newbie passenger always makes that "Oh sh*t" face when I punch it on a backroad. Gets me every time.:eek2: What's even more fun is since all my check rides are on motor(low 10 sec ets) the one time I go out to make a "test" pass on spray, I took my buddy who has his own upper 10 second car. I rolled out to about 40mph, short shifted to second, stood on it then drilled the nitrous. I shift it to high at 6000(a bit short but being conservative)stay in it to about 5000rpm(140mph or so) and lift since the bottle was working fine. I look over and my experienced friend has this "daaaaaaaannnnngggg" look and says "Dude, you were in second, hit the button, shifted to 3rd and were done in the time it took me to say "Holeee sh*t."

I cracked up and he tells this story repeatedly when car discussions come up. I added some more stuff to the car, I think it's about time to take him out and see if he likes another 150hp added to the mix. :3gears:
