Think of this like working on the car. If you can’t do it yourself, you don’t give up, get pissed or depressed, you find someone who’s been through it and accept their experience. You’re human-you can rise up, grow and beat this. You’ve taken the first big ass step. We ALL care, We all want to help. We all are in your corner. And no one is faulting you.

So nice to hear you check in this morning Guy.. This is the first thread I looked at on login..
Please believe most of us know what your going through, personally or with family member or friend.
You need to be medicated so you can stop feeding your self with vodka which will never end.. Please have your family find a detox and when you go you will see everyone is in the same boat and have the same feelings. Drinkers need each others support just as much as they need a detox's professionals. You are NOT alone buddie!

Gotta agree with the detox, Guy.
Think of it as a high stall Slingshot converter to get you in a better place quicker buddy.
Don’t try and take on all the other thoughts going on in your head, focus solely on that help, let the professionals do the thinking for a little while, please.

Don't start thinking into the future or even into a week nor worry about your store. Family is there and i'm sure you taught your employee's well.
It's 1 day at a time and again you need to get your blood pressure and pulse etc. under control.
Just to add i'm guessing after about 3 days with supervision you will feel way better and get the right sleep, not alcohol cat naps..
Cravings will be there but each day they will get less, I promise..

Yes Guy, I agree a detox is best for you. They can check you out physically, get you off the bottle, you will get plenty of meetings to get you started right. I had to do that, almost 29 years ago. The last year or so has been really stressful on people, there's no shame in it at all. Having been in your shoes, I know how you feel. It will get better, think of it as a vacation from stress.

About 8 months ago I drank so much vodka that I almost died, I slowly burned a hole in my intestines. I had quit drinking for years but this years drama and financial issues weakened me. I ended up in the hospital at 37 years old for a few weeks and it was enough detox time to help me get control again. I know you dont know me but I’m very lucky man with a good life and young kids. But this disease can trick the best of us into throwing it all away. Many of us understand, lean on us and your loved ones. One hour at a time, one step at a time, we aren’t supposed to be perfect. Do your best each day.

By the way, the reason I drank vodka was to hide it from my loved ones, less smell. Many closet drinkers turn to moderated vodka use to maintain a lifestyle without causing loved ones to be concerned. This alone is a huge danger, I slowly consumed way too much poison without my loved ones even knowing the extent.

    Hey Guy,
It's a hard thing to quit, been there & done it.
Never got any DWI, or in any trouble, it's a miracle.
Drank mostly Budweiser for 10 years +, on my 54th birthday I told the wife to get me a twelve pack of Budweisers in the bottle, best way to drink them.
I also told her this is the last time I will drink a beer, & I am quitting at this age.
She said sure you are, managed to drink 10 of them that day before I got totally blistered, the two I didn't drink are still in the fridge in the garage as a reminder.
This coming September will be 5 years.
The first 6 months I had strong cravings for it, I would always tell myself stay true to yourself, not easy because certain instances I would think , this is a good time for a beer.
For me after 6 months I got over it and the cravings disappeared.
My friends that I would hang out and drink with would pull out a beer and say is it ok for me to drink this in front of you?
I tell them go ahead, I got this thing whooped.
Guy, it takes will power & determination, stay true to yourself.
Like my father would always say to me when I done something stupid, Boy when are you going to wise up.

Admitting you need help is a good start, However actually getting the help is much more important and where many fall short. Start today! these resources are available 24/7. Waiting only offers another opportunity to drink yourself to death.

    Excellent posts!^^^^^^^^^^

Since not hearing much from ya today I gotta think you are still potentially over thinking things so will give you another mental imagine I was blessed with back in the day on this topic.

Picture yourself standing, legs about the width of your shoulders apart.
On your left side you have your past & on your right is your future, and in the middle besides being where you pi$$ represents today.

Sooooooo.....if you have one foot in yesterday annnnnnnd onnnnne foot in tomorroooow you are PISSING ON TODAY.

Focus on getting help TODAY tomorrow will take care of itself, and the past (?) well it’s past. Start living for today my friend! : )

I am going to be working on some parts (BUICK offff course) and love phone calls so I will have a reason to take a break so call me if it feels right Guy.
I’m definitely not perfect but been praying for you and will help you anyway I can because I understand the loneliness, fears and the rationalization, justifications of the disease.

Guy I logged on this morning just about 10 minutes from your last post..
I hope your either sleeping or checked yourself into a detox or hospital because we haven't seen you post again.
You don't need to spend alot on a high priced program where they coddle you if your insurance doesn't cover it.
Your inner will and faith and any higher power will help you through..

And if you are worried about being away from work “that long” imagine work with you “never there again” and the alcohol doesn’t care either way.

Guy, I just found this thread and after reading every post, I'm thankful you've reached out to your V8 friends for help.

Trust and believe in your innate self this can be overcome. It may be a difficult journey, fraught with traps and potential pitfalls, but you CAN defeat this addiction. It often requires many attempts to change addictive behaviors. "If at first you don't succeed, try again until you do".
