Heading home on a local semi windy road with a few long straight parts. I was doing the speed limit , 40 mph, and this punk in one of those mid 80's civic's has been riding my butt for a couple clicks, totally unnecesary, I'm cruising 10 over the speed limit and he's 4 feet off my bumper. This thing was ratty, lowered with a fart tube and 17's with decent tires, looked and sounded like it was falling apart as he drove it. So eventually I get fed up and slow right down so he can go around me, but of course he's another one of these punks who wants to 'punk' the big noisy muscle car. So he won't go around me and he inches closer until I think he's about to hit me and I had had enough, I dropped er into second and planted it, He stayed right with me, maybe 7 feet off my bumper holding my speed almost effortlessly, sounded like a totally stock POS with a fart can and probably was, held with me right up to 75 mph and then I let off, Wow. So this happened a couple more times until he finally turned off.
Sounds like it's time to invest in a honda. Ahg, I love my car but.. My ego and my 5.7L V8, just got punked by a stock 80's civic. It's definately time to pull the boat anchor out of my engine bay!

How many of you thought I was the one who would have trounced the honda:Dou:

I would have slammed on my brakes and shown him how good the reverse curve on a '69 rear bumper eats front ends

My wife did that in '82 with my first '71 Skylark. Small Honda put a wee little dimple in the rear bumper. Big Buick damaged the Honda to such a degree it was written off by the insurance adjuster.

Same. I would've pressed the breaks and watched that tin can fold into my rear bumper like a beer can being crushed into the ground. Some idiot tried doing that to me. Sometimes gets me wondering what these people are thinking. That's why I don't even bother riding on the left 2 lanes.:Dou:

I know guys, I should have snapped my brakes on him, my rear bumper is seriously ****ed anyway, but for one I didn't feel like getting to an accident and two I didn't want to do any damage to my car, it's in shambles as it is. But yeah, what a dickweed.

At times I have to remind myself and others that there is always someone faster, always someone quicker. Therefore the car you own should be the car that interests you the most. There is no replacement for Muscle cars. Sport compacts are fun too. I'm sure if you both were at a light you'd have walked away from him.

For guys like the Honda turd, he could have been in any car that he has mod-ed.

I know, thanks for the positive thought. I'm sure if my trans wasn't baked I'd have left him until the twisties.

Don't be too quick think a 350 can't run. There are many 350's on this board that run very, very well. I have a friend with a mid 13's 350 in a Skylark on pump gas with the right combination of stock/bolt on pieces. Nothing exotic or terribly expensive just good planning, testing and tuning. Do some research, ask some questions and get the right answers. Many fairly stock 455's dipping in the 12's too.

As for Honda boy a small NOS will make any car run. I had a ratty looking two tone Bamboo Creme Skylark 25 years ago that I did up right that ran high 12's-low 13's with a fairly stock 455 and very short gears. Mismatched wheels wretched sun beat up interior, people hated it, but man did it go on the street and in the 1/8. It ran out of steam at the 1000 foot mark though.

We've all been disappointed when someone else runs better than we expect. I lined up my beautiful turbo car against a very ratty looking/sounding 240Z one day at test and tune. He ran mid 10's to my mid 11's. No one wins them all.

Huh thats..... interesting?:Dou::boring::Do No: I think most of us know that honda makes tin cans with four bangers that sound like they just did a poulan transplant. And yes (and i really hate admitting this) some of them are fast. However they usually have power adders of some sort. I no way could they keep up in an all motor contest.
And for all those who think that there hondas are better than muscle the best argument i can come up with is this, when was the last time you saw a top fuel car with a four banger? Dosent happen becuase the ones with more cylinders have and will always have the best power potential.

That said to the extent possible to us as men with our pride and egos, is that you will have to digress to the fact that there is, and probably always will be someone faster than you are, and usually its the guy with the thicker wallet. Muscle cars have always been centered around one thing... FUN. So go have some.

Dude, you haven't done any of the things we told you to do with that car. No wonder you got smoked by a honda. I could smoke that car with a bicycle. Your carb is way to small, your trans is stuck in 2nd, and the tune is way off. Don'y cry to us ...

A properly set up high comp 350 would have eaten that honda, even if it had the good head. You don't even know how good your comression is. Yeah, someone did a test and it showed they were all somewhat equal, but worn out equal=squat. Flat cam also=squat.

In all actuality, if a worn out, untuned old buick can still be as fast as a ricer with the goodies+ possibly nitros, I wouldn't complain.

I can respect any car enthusiast no matter what they drive. I like my Buick because it appeals to me. I have a coworker with a 360+ whp Miata that I wouldn't dream of drag racing. He has over 10 years in the build and that thing is freaky to ride in. My neighbor just finished his five year project 412 whp Civic. It has a big turbo and only makes power between 6000-8000 rpm. I would stomp that car in the 1/8 mile, but he would most likely get me in the 1/4. I took him for a ride in my big block '64 Skylark and showed him the fun you can have with torque. With time and money you can make anything fast. I suggest you do whatever you want to your car since it's yours, but don't think you HAVE TO get a bigger engine to go faster. I've seen plenty of silly fast small blocks and even more painfully slow big blocks. The trick is to get the potential out of what you have to work with.

I get it about the other things like the carb size you were suggesting and what not, but I don't know why you keep saying that it's out of tune when it's tuned dead on. But yes the cam could be a dud, as well as everything else inside there. I've already ripped everything apart, the motors coming out within the next couple of weeks and then i'll know whats going on once I tear into it.

Well I love Buicks but I love Hondas too. I met a guy once, he had a 1990 crx with a streetable 1.8 vtec that ran low 12's. I love vtec. It sounds awesome. I wish you could get a 455 with vtec heads on it. That'd sound and go ballistic.

There are lots of quick tuners out there but they're quick because they're light. Put a blown V8 in a honda and see how it runs. I just hate their scene and I hate the cars.

I've never owned a 4 banger or a foreign car and I never will

For the record, this was not a fast honda, it was a stock falling apart, 80's civic with a fart can. If I had a decent trans I probably would have pulled away a bit. My car does 0-60 in about 10 seconds on a good day at the moment.

0-60 in 10 seconds? Come on a stock 350 should do way better than that
