What do you meant by standard stage 1. There are only a few cosmetic things that are stage 1 specific: maybe chrome valve covers and decals, fuel pump bowl and line, etc

As you know the GSX was just an option/appearance package. Aside from cosmetics, except for the steering box and maybe the hood tach, there was no difference between this car and a non GSx 70 stage 1. I am not sure if you want to count the special smaller diameter steering wheel with the larger grip.

The steering box was unique to GSx's?

    I didn't know that.

It was a quick ratio steering box and was unique and part of GSX option in 1970.
In 1970 Quick ratio box was not available in a regular GS car.

In 71-72 it was optional in any GS or GSX and not included in 71-72 WA5 GSX ornamentation package.

The only visual clue with the steering box was a little oval yellow sticker on the box cover with a two letter code on it. The letters are long since faded on most cars or painted over black like so many guys did in the past.

So a box with the little yellow sticker is a quick ratio?

No--- it just has a different 2 digit code in black letters on the yellow sticker.

I tried to stay away from number stamps, decals etc when talking about he differences above.

All Boxes had the yellow sticker. There were three two letter codes. One for regular power steering, One for non Power and one for fast ratio power.

    1970 codes
    DL-Non power
    DH-power
Cannot find listing on fast ratio

    1971 codes
    BV-non power
    BZ-Power
    DV-N41 fast ratio option

Almost never, but I was thinking about driving it to our annual New Years Day Cruise in, if the weather permits. I think the low temp here tonight is going to be 68.

Lee -- you know trailer queens are both a blessing and a curse. Waking up every morning and discovering you are not dead is the big picture. Everything else is small spuds. Sometime you have to take a risk and drive to a place where you can share them with the public.

Wow, no kidding Dave! I'm glad to hear that Jim still has the car - I thought I heard he sold it several years ago.

Jim - if you take it out, snap us a few pics of that beast!
