First kill for the Riv....

I was on Nicolls Rd. on L.I. as I was driving along I pulled up to one of those new Mazda RX-8's. I looked over and there was a younger person driving it so I goosed the throttle on the Riv a little bit to see if he wanted to play. He took off and I mashed the throttle. (We took off at about 70). I passed him at 85 and felt the speed minder kick in at about 105. I slowed down for traffic but he just kept cruisin right along. My friend in the passenger seat was flippin out cuz he had never gone that fast in a car before........

I love this S/C 6 cyl

Your Riviera is either modded or the RX8 wasn't racing... they are about two seconds and 10mph faster stock for stock. Maybe driver error? No downshift?

 

Don't under estimate Super c'd rivieras! They may be a little heavy and they may seem slow, but when that super C kicks in, it's gone.o No: o No: o No:

Seems fast enough for meo No: It seems fast for a newer car that is heavy, luxurious, and to top it off good looks. With a few mods it can be considered "fast".

what are rx8's supposed to run? i thought they only had like maybe 150hp with no torque.. the rotary is kinda disappointing without a turbo to help it out...

 

Mazda.com says that the new RENESIS dual rotar engine puts out 238 HP at 8,500 RPM and 159 LB-FT of torpue at 5,500 RPM. After driving Buicks I would be afraid to look at the tach in that car for fear of over-revving. 8,500 RPMS..........THATS NUTS.

 

238 HP sounds good, but no torque:sleep: :sleep: :sleep: :sleep: :sleep:

Has anyone ever heard of a 4 or even 6 rotor engine?

 

Probably in vintage airplanes Cody. Thats what the original Wankle engine was developed for I believe. So there may have possible been more rotors on those engines. I would certainly be curious to find out the specs on that if one exists.

 

theres a 3 rotor in japan that mazda made for one of their sedans but i forgot what it was called the engine i think was called a 30b or something like that ? i know the 2 rotor is the 13b.

 

The rotary engine is the only japaneeze motor to ever win the 24 hour LeMans. It may have no torque but is is linear.

I beleive in about 1975 that Mercedes built a car called the C1-11 that had a 400 horse rotary engine. It would run 210 mph from the factory. Thats the best one i can remember. Ed K

 

The difference could have been due to the 70 MPH start. The SC's hit pretty good at about that speed!! I raced a Ford Light. truck (late 90's) in a 96 SC last summer from light to light. He pulled me a little, but I was suprised that a 6 cyl. Stock Riv. did that well against a performance minded SC Truck. Not 455 power, but still fun to drive.
