Anyone else been through this? Or even better, any GM service techs here? I had to miss the Martin event because our '02 Dmax crapped out the night before I was supposed to leave, and now the dealer is jerking me around...they're only wanting to replace one bank of the injectors?! Does that sound right to anyone else? Best I can tell GM is aware that they have a problem with the injectors, and have since the Dmax's inception, and replacing both banks isn't too far out of line since the top end has to come off anyway...but my dealer is telling me that they won't replace the other bank with the updated injectors *unless* I promise to reimburse them if GM kicks back the warranty claim?

I found a TSB that says replacing all 8 is standard fare for "high fuel return rates"...well, it got the fuel so stinking hot that it was literally BOILING out of the tank vent...I don't have any of the fancy book learnin' that the GM service guys have, but my gut tells me an injector pump trying to keep up with faulty injectors is gonna get hot and then pass the heat on in the fuel, and that explains the boiiling fuel...the dealer didn't believe me that this was happening, even though it literally sprayed diesel fuel all over the back glass of our dually and was running out the rear of the bed...! :Do No:

I had all 8 of mine done last year. The dealer didnt hesitate at my request to replace them as a set of 8.They know for a fact the D-Max has injector issues, they even extended the warranty on the 01-02's to 200k on the injectors!Otherwise a great truck in my opinion.

I would use L88 invoice a back up if the dealer tries to bill you for the other bank. I know Rick Henderson on the board had this same problem.

Does that dealer know what you guys do for a living? Bring one in with a casket in the back next time and leave it there with their name on it.

This is precisely why people are running away from big 3 cars and trucks. It's not the vehicle, it's the @#$%!@#$%^service departments and the policies they're being forced to use by Central office. Your only hope is to have a perfect vehicle and keep it away from the dealers' service departments. It's not the techs, they're the greatest....if you can ever get by their palace guards.

    Rob,

You may want to try and PM Buick 'Berta. Her ears kind of perked up when I told her why you did not make it. Hope you get it all taken care of

Wayne: I tried calling a coupla times this am, and it was busy...I hated bothering you, but I found a GM tech in Jersey (via a friend over at Yenko.net) that actually gave me the time of day, and even fed me the TSB # to feed my dealer...but in case anyone else goes through this, or knows someone who has or is, here is a great link with 2 of the major TSB's regarding Duramax injector failure, and how it is to be handled...MANY THANKS again for the help, y'all...this experience is almost enough to make me switch brands...ALMOST!

My phone shows the first call was @ 10:58am...I'm guessing I got caught somewhere between here and there, which is common since there are only so many lines between here and the real world...oh well, it's the thought that counts! Funny thing about the truck...I just called 'em up, and told them I had the TSB #s that will take care of my problems, well lo and behold the service guy says "yeah, we got to talking about it after you called this morning and we thought we remembered something about the '02 Dmax's getting special treatment"...ummm, suuuuuure! But then he drops the other shoe and tells me that they don't have enough "seals" to finish the job, and if they can't get any from the dealer over in Springfield (150 miles awa) then they'll have to get 'em from Isuzu, which means *at least* another 7-10 days wait! Dad about hit the roof when I told him that...me thinks it's time to ask for a comparable replacement vehicle for a bit!

[Edit: got in touch with Wayne finally...HUGE help! Many thanks!!]

Sorry you missed Martin, I offered my '06 Duramax that was sitting in my driveway for you to SmallHurst before realizing you were in MO, not MI! The injector problem on the earlier Duramax is a problem, as you have already figured out, but don't bail on it yet, they will fix it and it'll be much better, I'm on my 3rd one, had '03, '04 for sale and now driving the '06 as a company car, with 4600 miles getting 18-20 MPG without the trailer, with the trailer around the same as the others, 11-12. But a nice truck! Sounds like you've got what you need to get it fixed right, if not, call the customer service number and have all your dealer papers and stuff in hand, they will take care of it and make it right, I'm sure. If you still don't feel like it's been handled correctly let me know, I have as a GM employee, contacts to get it handled.

    The saga continues...

...got a call from the dealer this afternoon, and he said the injectors are done but the "howling" I told them about when I dropped the truck off was the rear end, and it's gonna cost me $4700 for a new one, and they could get one ASAP?! Are you kidding me?! I gave him the obligatory "what?" reply, and he said that my auxillary tank had to have been plumbed into the rear end vent at some time, dumped diesel in it, and wiped it out! Of course I said "how?", and he said he didn't know, as all the hookups look correct now, but that their theory is centered around the auxillary tank! Well, they tried to tell me the auxillary tank is what ruined my injectors, but that didn't work, so I guess they're gonna try it on the rear end! Can you believe that?!

I told them not to touch another thing on the truck, that I'd be down to get it...this just keeps getting better, and better... :Dou:

.....and the beat goes on with the service departments of the big 3 dealers destroying what loyalty is left in "Buy America" products. Whatever that means anymore. :Do No: :Do No: :Do No:

    Don't feel bad ....

My 04.5 crew cab Cummins Dodge was in Park whilst I was in the convenience store picking up some stuff. Cold day - truck idling. Came outside to find it GONE !!! The trans had slipped from Park to Reverse, gone across two sidewalks and two lanes of traffic and ended up parking itself in some old lady's front porch. :af: I got hung up on by the Chrysler service guy, had a customer of mine that works for Jeep/Truck Engineering looking into it .... blah blah blah. About 8 months after my dilemma, a NHTSA submission, still no admission of responsibility, I get a recall notice that "there may be some problems with 48RE's going into Reverse" ..... The fix -- program the Panic feature that blares away when it happens. I've got Chrysler products stacked up like cord wood, and not a single one has a problem, yet I've got a $45k truck that magically goes from P to R on it's own ???? :af: Of course my local dealer was babbling when I brought it in with the problem. They were idiots as DaveH illudes to. I had to do my own research and troubleshooting. Don't get me wrong .... I love the truck to death, and it is a towing monster, but the dealerships KILL your desire to own a new ANYTHING. $10,500 worth of house damage, and $2500 worth of truck damage and I'm back together ... but DAMN it was a long haul to get there. :Dou:

PS - Just how in God's name do you get diesel fuel in the rearend ?? :Do No: You GM guys are always trying new tricks ........
