May be a 1968 Coronet R/T in my future. RR1(Burgandy Metalic) Red interior, White bumblebee stripe. 440-4bbl, 727 on the column, bucket seats. 3.23 Sure Grip. Engine and trans are gone, But the engine from my Road Runner has been sitting on an engine stand for about 3 years now. Sell off the 6 pack set-up! And figure out how to tune an AVS!
Sounds like a cool color combo Mikey ! :TU: Nothing a < cough > < cough > Thunder-Series AVS < un-cough > < un-cough > couldn't take care of .......... uzzled: :3gears:
Everybody says that to get these cars to go fast you need to put them on a DIET. So I put my car on the ATKINS DIET. Cut back on the CARBS:laugh:
Looks like it's a done deal. Should be bringing her home this weekend. First decision will be how to get the paint off.o No: Local sand blasting place will do engine compartment, bottom, trunk ect. for about $250.00
You sure changed your sig fast:grin: . Mike did you call Atom Blasting? Well,I`ll see ya in the morning at Norwalk
Drop the Runner off tonight and pick up the R/T. I decieded to stick with the byuild sheet on colors and such. The tough decision now is what to do with all these fancy Nancy Boy options like power steering and power brakes?
The freakin' thing even has a HEATER and RADIO! This darn car is OPTIONED OUT:laugh: At least the shifter is in the right spot...Right up on the column where it belongs:TU:
Rear spring shckle length? How long are the rear spring shackles? Every one we saw on the streets back when they were new, were a minimum of 12 inches or so. Great place to add weight, though. :Brow: Fortunately, we didn't have to see the rears of them too often. 10-4 on the shifter location (with an automatic). :moonu:
Upon closer inspection and decoding of the fender tag it turns out the car is a stripe delete:error: and to add insult to injury it's a PEG LEG 3.23:af: Who in the heck would order a musclecar without a Sure Gripo No: . Don't matter I guess since I will put the 3.55 from the Road Runner in it anyhow, Plus it does have a 3.23 Sure Grip in it now to sell off. Some of the positives are that it's so rust free underneath that the underside only has a light coating of oil and road grime. Some ZEP Industrial Soap and a pressure washer should be all she needs to get the bottom side clean as a whistle. HELP ME decide: Stripe Delete or add a WHITE Bumble Bee stripe? Use the brand new WHITE interior that comes with the car or go through the hassle of selling off what I have and buying new RED(original color) seat covers, door panels, head liner, ect and then go through the hunt for RED dash pad,Kick Panels, arm rests ect. Which I don't think will be easy to find in RED. I guess the white interior would work very well with a white stripe. But a RED interior would also be WAY COOL:TU:
I'd go with the red interior, leave the stripe off for now and if after it's together it looks like it needs the butt stripe add it then. Just my .02
Ya know LON....I'm looking for people to reassure me that adding the stripe I like and using the interior I already have is the smart move:grin:
White Hat special.... I think the really smart move would be to use the interior you already have and add that white butt stripe to break up all that burgandy. How's that:moonu:  Add a white top to it and I'll let you use the original white hat I've got to go with it
I think the general populace didn't wise up to the benefits of posi rear ends until around '69 or '70. I don't know about other makes, but a LOT of the '68 Olds 442s I've looked at are peg leg. But most of the '70s have posi. It was optional both years (although this depended somewhat on the gear ratio).
traction in snow Lot of the guys I worked with at Olds Engineering did not order posi intentionally as they were too hard to drive in the snow. If you parked in parking lots, they go sideways instead of just one wheel spinning and keeping straight.
