yup, go to a mans play yard (junk yard) and get yourself a manual steering box off an s-10 two wheel drive and it bolts right in. :pp

loose the hydro boost brake set up and get the MP brake manual set up and your 455 will look cleen.

any one else run across any onther interesting stuff while swapping out their old regal, GN, t-types with the brute 455?

    Racin Jason SIZE MATTERS!!!!

I have an S-10 manual steering box on mine. Upper control arms, spindels, and the rest of the front suspension is interchangeable from the S-10 to the G-bodies.

I just replaced the power steering in my cutlass with an s-10 manual box, definatley helps clean the engine compartment up a little. I know that doing this swap helps shed some weight and reduce drag on the engine but has anyone done any "scientific work" to find out just how much weight is saved and how much more power the engine makes? :Do No:

    Weight

I think most of the weight to be taken off is behind the steering wheel. JMT

Not sure much weight I could take off behind the wheel, :beer but those won't help any :moonu:

Do you know if there is a light weight cross member off a stock car or truck that would fit? the regal cross member is a lunker ...

Hey guys not to get off the beatin path but I've got a '69 Skylark, I've heard that a common and easy swap is to take a steering gearbox out of an '80's G body and it will transplant right into a late '60's A-body. If that is true would the same be for the S-10 steering box then?

S-10 steering Box fits ALL G and A bodys!!!
    It's the arm you change.

So what your saying is just use the stock arm and not the S-10 arm.

I don't know about the a body's, but with the g body's you can't reuse the old power steering arm, from what I've heard the geometries are different. When I swapped out the power box for the manual one from an 89 s-10 I used the s-10 arm and it bolted right up and works perfect (don't ya just love it when that happens  )

Again, has anybody done weighed the power steering components (I threw mine away right away and didn't even think to do it) and/or dyno'd an engine with and without various accessories i.e. power versus manual steering, mechanical versus electric water pump etc.?) Even if the gain isn't substantial I'm thinking that it should help performance a little...

Well Im not looking for a manual box, I have power steering in my '69 Skylark but I wouldn't mind getting a tighter and more responsive box in there. Obviously I've tried finding a Monte SS box but people want an arm and a leg for them so if I can yank one from an S-10 so be it! I'll assume that the S-10 box isn't a perfomacne box like the Monte SS?

The power steering box that Runnin just took out of his 84 t-type is a faster ratio box. Maybe you can get it from him.

I still have the original power box out of my '84 t-type, that may be what your looking for? I am pretty sure they turn a bit faster if that is what you need? The box has 84K on it and it seemed to be fine when I removed it... Not sure they fit though?
