Guys, I'm glad the expected price seems OK to everyone here, that should give me enough room to work with. Just wanted to make sure no one thought I was cheating them. Duane
Carl, I can tell you that "right away" is not going to happen. There are molds to make, number of parts per run to consider, and die cutting/tooling to set up. I am going to do this right the first time, there will be no rushing the parts to market. I posted this to see if there was interest, obviously there is, so I will start the ball rolling. As I get further into the project I will let you know. It's like every other part I reproduce, one day you have none, then the next day you have hundreds/thousands of parts. Duane PS. Brett, they look like 72 350 foams, thanks for posting them.
Carl, That's what I figured. I just wanted everyone to know that if they needed a set for an up-coming show, they would need to buy an original set for now. Just didn't want to hold anyone up. Duane
Air Cleaner Seals I do not understand this. I remember when the were available at the dealership and they were dark gray like the ones that "buickrestr" sold on Ebay. I never saw a yellow set and don't care for the yellow. I have been told I have aftermarket ones on my GS and like the appearance of the darker color, of course thats just my opition. AL.
Al, The foams you have pictured are definitely reproductions, the outside shape is different then the originals. You are also correct that most of the NOS foams are gray in color. I have had quite a few sets over the years. All of them were made of gray foam, with the outsides painted different shades of gray. However, the originals that were supplied with the cars, and early NOS replacements, were made of yellow foam with the outside painted gray. This is what I am interested in making. I run into this all the time with NOS pieces, everyone thinks an NOS piece must be correct because it's NOS. Many parts were changed over the years, but retained the original part numbers. A good example of this is battery cables. I had a guy complaining because I knocked points off his 70 car because he did not have the correct spring-ring battery cables. His were NOS, but looked like the regular style top mount replacements with the bolt and nut. They were clearly wrong, and when I showed him the drawing from an Assembly manual he understood. He figured his NOS "replacement" parts were correct, but they were not. Currently, in the Concours class, we accept any NOS foam as long as it is the correct height for that particular motor size. We do not differentiate between any of the outside color variations, or foam color, and we will continue to do so. I am trying to give the guys a cheaper alternative then buying NOS pieces. Duane
Ol Yeller huh... Anyone have a picture of the yellow ones? (Kinda glad I have nos grey, don't think I'll care for the yellow).o No:
Air Cleaner Seals Duwane, are you going to reproduce the air cleaner seals? Let me know. I have seen a correct set like you told me about and now I remember them 20+ years ago, Thanks AL.
