loose the booster.........plug the vacum line.........i think you will need a manual master cylinder not sure....

    why would you want to?

You will need the manual brake input rod.
I have one listed on Ebay for a whopping starting bid of $9

Sounds like a "BIG" cam is in the future.... Thats why us idiots do things like this.Since big cams wont produce enough vaccuum anyways.

I have a big cam, and I don;t use the engine to create vacuum. They make electric pumps to do this for you. I had drums, and it sucked when you are trying to stop. My question was, you put all this time and money in to a bad a$$ machine, then smash it when Grandma Grocery Getter slams on her brakes for a park squirrel.

Joe, Depends on what you are doing with your car....I am strictly racing mine and I know that in some classes you have to be able to pull a certain amount of vaccuum and the pumps are not legal.Ask Rob Chilenski...I believe that a few years ago there "might" have been some question to him "possibly" have been running a pump to keep the proper brake vaccuum with a bigger cam at the GS Nats... Or so I am told...lol
I have several friends running 10's as well as 11's that have non power disc setup and never had any braking problems...Alot better than one that runs 11's in a 55 Chevy with a single reservior non power drum front setup.

in all honesty i'm doing the brakes in the car and seeing that shes light one i figured i'll trim some more. i,ve daily driven manuel drum in the past without incident and i figure manuel disc wil probably work just fine for me. next thing i need is a good manuel steering box, any ideas.

I had manual front discs in my 71 LeMans that I had years ago. I liked the manual brakes because they seemed to have better feel than the power brakes.

I switched to manual disc 10 years ago with no stopping issues. I also like the feel of a manual pedal. If your using something like a 308s solid cam there's not much vaccum so why carry the extra weight by adding a vaccum pump with a heavy booster.

Going I step further, I used an aluminum Chebbie S-10 master cylinder for further weight savings. This master has the even plastic reservoir as opposed to some of the wedge shapes.
Some others have used the Mopar perf master sucessfully.

I guess it comes down to what is important to you. Orig looks or weight savings.

    Tom,
With the S-10 master cylinder what modifications need done?? Will the rod from a Buick work on this or do you have to use the whole S-10 assembly?? Just curious.

    W30 Olds Cars?

I need an Olds expert here to comfirm and correct, but I had been told the W30 and W31 Olds cars did not come with power disc, only manual disc or drums because the cam did not pull enough vacuum.

Most auto parts stores can get a correct manual disc master cylinder for these "W" cars among other parts that would be correct for that "A" body.

    Big & Nasty,

The S-10 master idea appealed to me after seeing many street rods using this setup.
I used it with a manual drum brake push rod and the stock GS power disc proportioning valve. Many use the setup with a Wilwood adjustable unit.

The S-10 master is is a touch larger at the diameter where it goes through the firewall. A little Emery cloth or a Rat Tail file to trim.
