That '70 Shop Manual is probably the best investment you could make, as it's the 'Bible' for your car, and there's a ton of info in there, allbeit somewhat hard to find at times. Check the foldout coloured wiring diagram schematic, and the electrical connections to the dash panel for info on the speed alert wiring/relay setup.
Hang in there, and keep trying Marty !! :beer :TU:

ok ok im looking at the 70 manual and diagrams and still cant
tell much.cluster is coming soon . when installing the new cluster with speed and trip, its my understanding that the wires will be there for the speed alert even though it didnt have it before. also is there any thing else to wire or connect to my speed cluster that was not connected with the base model.thanks:puzzled:

i received my trip/speed alert cluster.its a beaut except that ill swap lenses with my original one.QUESTION when i got it,it was reset nicely to zero.how is that done, with a pull or a push because theres no push room left.....speed alert adjusts smoothly and i understand to hook up the pink wire. i do not see any other additional hookups over my base model in the manual.....do you, thanks again marty:Do No:

You can remove the drum with the numbers and set it to 00000

i know that once miles are put on the speedometer so will go the odometer. i also see plenty of info in the manual on the speed alert but cant find anything on the trip odometer. it seems the odometer should reset by pulling on the knob. is THAT correct, thanks

Ah, you mean the day trip counter ?
I thought that you were asking how they change the actual odometer reading to zero.

Thanx Erik for all your help especially over the past few years . I am learning a lot but will never be a pro like you and the rest of the guys. I am recently disabled and cant do much to my car so i have a good mechanic BUT the better prepared i am for him the easier it goes. marty

Marty the trip reset is like a cable that comes out the bottom of dash with a little knob
