another year may work but 70 electra had mostly 1 year parts. i am now looking for what ever parts including cluster to work trip odometer, also if you dont have it for sale ,i would appreciate a photo so i can see where the reset lies, thanks ,marty
Like I told you in your other thread: You use this knob to reset the trip odometer: If the car also has the "speed alert" option, you use that same knob to reset the trip odometer: V8Buick Top-Tip: Go to User CP and add your first name to your signature, so you don't have to type it every time you post on the board :TU:
HI MARTY I HAVE A DASH CLUSTER OUT OF A 1969 LESABRE 400 THAT HAS THE SPEED ALERT ON IT. I WOULD HAVE TO DIG IT OUT FOR PICS SO WE WOULD NEED TO KNOW IF IT WOULD INTERCHANGE WITH A 1970 ELECTRA BECAUSE IM NOT SURE. THANKS JOHN
thanks, i misunderstood......it must be because im one of the " old guys" from the other thread. plus i didnt realize it would be the same in my car, thanks for your photo again, marty
thanks again as im on a learning curve with this but i do know it must be a difficult part to find. plus im learning that this cluster may me all i need. BAD BOATTAIL has posted that photo which was very enlightening .
Hi Marty So i am confused Marty, are you still needing one or is yours going to work for you? Mine is buried in my shop so if you don't think you will need it let me know. Thanks John
sorry to be confusing,i definitely need the cluster that has trip odometer, looking forward to those photos and quite ready to buy if it is right for 70 electra ,marty
still looking for the cluster that is displayed in the photo in this thread, any ideas,marty.......trip odometer:sleep:
i follow exactly what you say, however i am told by 2 sources that if the car came with just trip odometer and not speed alert, then the adjusting nob would be located in the speddometer proper.ie you could not then add speed alert as you would have 2 resets one in speed allert and one in the speedo. do you agree, marty
In a Riviera you use the "speed alert" button to adjust the speed alert needle and also to reset the odometer. This is from your other thread: (why didn't you continue posting in that thread ?)
too many posts at 3 am.... anyway my first thread i think was asking questions/ my second thread was more to clearly indicate i was looking for it. martyo No:
I have the Owner's Manuals for the Riviera and the combined one for the Electra, here are scans: Click thumbnails :Comp: One knob, two functions :TU: Read it like this:
thanks Eric. Ill know tommorow but i think ive located a cluster. Would the speed alert buzzer be inside the cluster or is it somewhere else and would it come with it or do i also need to get one . If not is that buzzer wired by harness or is it a simple connection and are the buzzers available or reproduced, thanks for your help, martyuzzled:
The buzzer for the speed alert is the same unit that buzzes for key left in ignition, and it is a seperate relay mounted in the dash near, but not inside the cluster - at least it is in my '68 Riviera. The schematic, and dash panel wiring harness diagram in a '70 Buick Shop Manual should have your answers. :TU:
THANK YOU! By the way ,i purchased a cluster out of a 70 electra(mine is 70 Electra too) in Idaho with Speed Alert and Trip Odometer in nice shape, today. Im really looking forward to getting the dash apart also to convert my clock to quartz. It currently works and was redone by Clockworks but is 10 minutes fast per day and wont adjust. Marty
Would that relay be the same type as a horn relay since ill have to get a relay before closing up the dash ,i guess. Also are speed alerts usually accurate and working or what issues could there be thanks, marty
It's a different relay than the horn relay. The speed alert is as accurate as your speedometer - whatever speed you dial in, the audible buzzer goes off at that speed. You really need to invest in a '70 Buick Shop Manual Marty, so you could answer a lot of your own questions !! :Smarty:
