Hey everyone, does anyone have any good tips on what to use to clean up some chrome? I heard that other day that Petroleum Jelly is the best thing out there for chrome??? Is this true?

I am not sure it could have been Navel Jelly, My Dad heard it on the radio and told me. Coke and Aluminium Foil??? really? You just pour coke on there and rub it with the aluminium foil? What works better, regular or diet?

Some #0000 steel wool and metal polish. Are we talking about chrome wheels?

Try this : use what ever chrome polish you would like and after your done with it, use window cleaner to clean up the light residue you didn't get off. LOOKS GREAT when finished.REALLY GREAT!

    Madcat455 Need..more... AMMO!!!

Pour on the Coke... Let it sit for a couple of seconds (yes.. Seconds), then rub the chrome with a wadded up piece of Alum. Foil.

I watched a show on the Disc. Channel (Mythbusters) where they tested all the uses for Coke(where can I get a job like that??). This was one of the things they tested. The did half a bumper out of a junk truck with Chrome cleaner, and the other half with the coke. The coke actually worked better than the cleaner:confused:  They couldn't even believe it. You do have to clean the residue off after you done scrubbing tho.

I plan on testing it on my car this weekend... Nothing lost on my chrome if it does hurt something...lol. :Dou:

Coke (or Pepsi) is also good for cleaning your windshield especially if you pour it on while it is raining and the wipers are going...takes "road oil" right off....

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

    After you are done...

After you are done cleaning the chrome with whatever you choose, I prefer the Coke and aluminum foil method myself, finish off the polishing with a newspaper. It REALLY shines up after that!!:TU:

I use brasso, the finest steel wool I could find, followed up by a rough cloth, then a fine cloth... and a lot of elbow grease. Brought back my rear bumper from being a dull gross bumper with very, VERY stuck on road grime to a shiney, good, drivers bumper (still needs to be rechromed though)

  18. i used the detergent we used to have in our tattoo shop, it was called Dr Bonhams peppermint soap...that stuff brings chrome back to life real swell...it smells good and is environmentally friendly..(vegetable based)
Its also worked wonders on my paint too, cuts all those road crud and oily hand prints straight off..and did i mention it smells cool too?? lol..

Also Vinegar is excellent in ya washer bottle for helpin keep windshields grease free... as is Lemon juice..

"Newspaper, aluminum foil, Coke??, steel wool! the stuff from the grocery store" .....

What about simple polish and a chamois?? Doesn't aluminum foil leave swirl marks and scratches? I could understand #0000 steel wool, but aluminum foil seems kind of hard, there are different gauges and weights of aluminum foil available, I wouldn't advise using just any, IF any.....

Mothers Mag polish, even worked on the chrome rim of the race car that got really rusty from never waxing them and having the car sit out all winter:ball:
It's not a wax, so after your done, they will need to be protected
