Most guys are going back 100% original and I want my GSX to look more like the old school cool like this one pictured. Your car is going to be amazing and congratulations on getting it restored.
Oh man, that's nice! And what a time saver that will be for Nick. To think of all the time I've spent sandblasting, stripping, sanding, and primering.....
No I wont put them on my GSX as I don't want Jamey to burn the heck out of her legs getting in and out.
Ryan, When it get's warm,I'll go through some of my day 2 stuff and get some pictures to see if you are interested in any of it.
Thanks! Seems dipping/e-coat for an original sheetmetal body is imperative as there's certainly some rust hiding somewhere in an inaccessible seam or backside of a panel that could pop through anytime.
We brought my buddies GTO to Restoration Specialists in Franklin, Wi. to have it chemically dipped and then e-coated. They do both processes in house so it's a one stop shop. http://www.metal-cleaning-rsi.com/ The results were great...........
Surprisingly, there was no flash rust or any rusting after my wagon was blasted. Even after weeks. The paint shop said that is normal. And that's in humid DC area.
Just for others information There is a place in Eugene Oregon that does this as well, but no e-coating, just a spray on rust inhibiter. They are Called Metalworks. They say they will pickup your shell/doors/hood/lid and do their process to it all for $3600 Including the return delivery. http://metaldipping.com/ Interesting they specifically call out spring steel items as a potential problem. Their method is two days submerged in a hot caustic alkaline bath, followed by a pressure wash, two days in acid bath, another pressure wash and air dry/rust inhibitor. They look serious.
What would be the ideal thing to do about the VIN tag and cowl tag then? I am sure it would eat them so they must be removed prior?? Just asking..
The place we used had warned us there's a good possibility that the tags would get destroyed so we opted to remove them both and put them back later.
According to some in the hobby if you were to remove either of those tags ,..your car instantly becomes a ward of the state,...you must surrender it to the local authorities for it to be promptly shredded ,...then you will be put under the jail with a sewer pipe run into your cell FOREVER,....FOREVER,.....FOREVER!!!!
Thank you Pat that would be awesome. Got the vintage slapper bars from Duane and I will most likely put air shocks on the X as well. I have Cragar's on the Disco GS so thanks to Mike B in SC I got a cool set of Shelby Call 500 Slot mags for it. (My very first car I put Slot mags on and I always liked them.)
Sorry to get you & 3shields mixed up in my post. Thanks again for the info! Great info - I'd love to have it all done at one place being so far away (800 mi.) - Never been to WI. Have 2 bodies I'd like to have done. Would be nice to make one trip loaded both ways & coordinate w/MCACN.
