    Good idea Mart!

Once you get over the hurdle of removing the bolt, the balancer slides off, no need for a puller:cool:
    Remove fuel pump
    Remove distributor
    Remove coolant hoses
Remove oil filter (makes the cover more maneuverable AND lighter)
You can leave the water pump attached IF you know the pump is good.
Remove timing cover bolts, INCLUDING the two front oil pan bolts that bolt to the bottom of the timing cover.
Gently rap on the top of the cover towards the front of the car with a rubber mallet.
Resist prying between the block and cover, its a good way to gouge the cover.
Make sure you get all the cover bolts out, theres one that hides to the right of the oil pump and gets covered with crud, its easy to miss. I'll take a pic of a spare cover I have and post it.

Copy! I asked around at work today and a new guy said he has a Milwaukee 18V impact wrench so he’s gonna bring it to work tomorrow. I have done everything you guys have said to. I will leave the water pump attached I just replaced it recently. Once I get this balance off and cover I will post pictures of the timing assembly before I even touch it and see what you guys think.

Hey Mark would you happen to know how many bolts in total hold the timing cover?

But now I am having trouble removing the timing cover! I counted Mark’s timing covers bolts and I counted 9 I’m pretty sure that’s how many I removed. I will post pictures. I did the mallet portion but no go. A8BE720C-AEF7-4925-AF92-821830716EF5.jpeg 186B077D-3693-43C4-A64D-432E0E14FEF3.jpeg 5B8069DC-274C-4A72-ABCB-19DA4F28EDA9.jpeg

The one with the blue circle is a long bolt that is threading all the way out just can’t pull it off because of the water pump being in the way

I start work at 7 and get off at 5 so I ended up walking next door to the Autozone and ordered the timing set. I was looking at it today and compared it to the one on the TA performance website. The gears look different. I will post up the pictures. Worst case scenario I will just order it from TA and wait for it. I think the one I got is for a Chevy 00B3B0FB-7D7C-45A0-94BE-9A7032AB99DA.jpeg

Don't forget to remove the bottom bolts on the timing cover that hold the front of the oil pan on that weren't pictured in Mark's pics.

I counted 12 according to my picture, PLUS 2 from the oil pan.
    I honestly never counted before.

Jimmy, I have a good used stock timing set I'll send you for free if your interested.
Its been hanging on a peg hook for YEARS, I'd rather see it being used, than eventually get thrown out:(

Mark that is an awesome pic. I did not remove those bolts. I thought they belonged to the water pump. Thank you for the offer Mark I would gladly pay for your set and shipping.
