Is the kickdown cable connected, adjusted, and working? You'll also need to modify the governor, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-20248
Ok, that was going to be my second guess.... I remember doing that as a kid with my old Ford pickup that had a hot 302 in it..... it's been about 25 years though lol. I will give that a try. Thanks Thanks Matt for the tip, I will check that out. Larry, I didn't think the TH350 had a kickdown, I thought that was just for the 400
Yup, TH350 has a detent (kickdown) cable, should be attached to throttle linkage in one way or another. For Buick it's the second cable attached to the top of the accel pedal under the dash. Devon
The 400 kick down is electrical. The THM350 has a cable, more commonly called a detent cable. It connects directly to the gas pedal on your Buick. The transmission side has it bolting on with an eyelet link for the cable.
I feel like the best way to check kickdown functionality is to do more burnouts and when you're cruising at about 50 mph or so (solidly in 3rd gear), floor it. If it downshifts,, celebrate by doing more burnouts
You guys rock… that cable is so loose that even pushing the pedal all the way down it doesn’t pull the cable… it appears to have been stretched out… likely when I reinstalled the block. I can’t wait to fix this and then drive it.
I would check the other end as Devon suggested. There is a thin link that goes through a small eyelet at the cable end. When everything is right, you can pull on the cable from the gas pedal end, and when you let it go, it will pull back in.
Un …..freaking …believable…. This car is insane now! ….this is what I expected to feel from a 455…. Border-line scary to drive! Thanks so much guys.
