Like some fellas here on the board, and personal friends who are LEO's from local to FBI and Secret Service say "I was in fear of my life. I was in fear of my life".

Now in LA a person has a DUTY to retreat to protect himself first. I can't move that fast (260lbs. and back surgury). :( If you think I'm goona turn my back on 1, 2, or 5 people, you're crazy.:eek2: I'm gonna feel that i was in mortal danger (unless spending a few weeks in a coma is ok w/ you from a stomping)and use the appropriate response!:blast:
They don't even have to be armed. You have to feel your were in fear of great personal injury.:Smarty: Of course all that being said, I would still be pissed at the perp for making me use deadly force. Taking a life is weighd hard on a man.:(

This is my main side-arm. Ruger p-90 .45 Mike M. remember this one that weekend at your house???? :blast:

Somthing happened to me a while ago while we went to a parade. I ran into a cop who did escort for our wedding. Soon after that a pal that I've gone to Europe with and is a Detective came up. We were b.sing about guns and some crazy stuff they did after Katrina. I mentioned I shoulda brought my .45, cause we parked on the other side of the Qtr. and wouldn't be leaving til late.
My friend said even w/ it in a holster uncovered by sweater, jacket, etc, any other cop could arrest me BECAUSE THE BARREL WAS INSIDE THE HOLSTER!!!!!!! I was inflamed!. I said so the big end and trigger sticking out doesn't coount? He said nope! I told him I was lucky I guess years back, cause I walked straight down Bourbon St. w/ my friends shot gun, cause he has a apt. there.:Do No:

    Thanks Devon, according to LA

" If the weapon is carried in a manner that reveals its identity, its carrier
cannot be presumed to have intended to conceal it and, accordingly, is not in
    violation of the statute
...... The appropriate test to be applied in
prosecutions for illegal carrying of weapons is whether, under the facts and
circumstances of the case as disclosed by the evidence, the manner in which
defendant carried the weapon revealed an intent to conceal its identity.'
Therefore, the carrying of an exposed handgun is not illegal

Soooooo, if my gun is a visable as any cops, why the hassle. I don't know if this one cop knows squat or whatever, but if I went to jail for it, wouldn't i have a basis to sue???:Do No:

I confess I was not very familiar with my own state's OC (open carry) laws until today, including limitations.

I have not OC'd, but there are times in hindsight I wish I'd understood my Michigan laws so that I could have had that option...shame on me.

The amount of public scrutiny one might receive for OC must be foremost in one's mind. Just like a CPL (concealed pistol license) OC demands one's adherence to the laws and a firm understanding of how the public and law enforcement may perceive and/or interact with you.

I am glad to hear folks are educating themselves with the law. I encourage NRA membership also.
I also encourage anyone who chooses to conform to the law to secure their FBI PIN # as an added measure of identity protection...

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, that .410 hand cannon is a blast:Brow:

I am glad we're participating in a discussion of law, rather than a discussion of political beliefs.

I think the mods and admin appreciate this too.

Thanks guys/gals for staying on track here.

You can apply for a unique ID # or PIN through the FBI. They run your prints, backgorund check, etc. ONce cleared, you are issued a PIN.

If you have purchsed guns from a store or dealer, you will have seen a blank for FBI PIN,and your CPL #. You provide this PIN on the paper work and the backgorund check is done instantly by the store / seller- no 7 day waiting period, no mistaken identity BS, etc.

Jason, I seem to remember that you blasted my target stands to smitherines with that weapon. I didn't have a problem with that.

What I never understood is how you guys managed to get my ATVs so muddy. That remains the big mystery in my mind.

You also left me with enough extra beer to last for three months. Thanks for that. Overall, it was a successful get together. Nevertheless, I still can't figure out where you guys found all that mud. Especially my Kubota RTV looked like it had been through the civil war both top and bottom. Every crevace was filled with mud and grass beneath it and there was some metal bending involved. Frankly I'm surprised someone didn't fly out of it and get hurt. Not to say we shouldn't do it again next year.

Nice gun there, I like it. But my H&K USP .45c does the job for me now :)

This thread reminded me of one of my favorite Buick related quotes, from the ever-crazy Ted Nugent.

"You know how to stop carjacking? Shoot the carjacker. If someone is going to kill me for my Buick, I'm gonna shoot until I'm out of ammo - and then I'll call 911." - Ted Nugent
