Maybe we could make a compromise, go ahead with making several to sell but instead of the gridle [this is the genius part] make aluminum heads for the 350? EHY???

Though the gridle is an important piece of the puzzle but still need more pieces to make it take off but plz plz do make them.

yea...along with a nice sdry sump oil pan..or atleast an aluminum street/strip pan that holds extra courts..

i'll post back about the girdle when i get a response

    Justa350 I'm BACK!

Stock V6 blocks running 8.90's with the girdle. That just makes the hair on the back of my neck tingle! For what it's worth, I'm going to be making a girdle for my next block. Obviously I'll post up pics when I do it. It'll be another option for us hardcore boosters.

Well Mark, I'd love to see updates, more so if this doesnt go through..
I'm kind of iffy on going roller cam now..being 800$ and all.
btw, any ETA when you plane to start?

These girdles can't be that hard to make. I work in a CNC shop, does any one have a drawing I could give to my boss to get a quote? I suppose I could get dimensions off of my block, but I don't know all the if's ands and but's about these things. Looks like studs go into the oil pan mounting holes, the girdle , then the oil pan correct? I'm just not sure about the mains. Do we use the stock mains and put a spacer between the main and the girdle? How about some details about these things. I'd have some interest in doing a small run on these.

DEADMANSCURVE my first word : truck

i contacted rjc a while ago for some basic v6 girdle info i thought may help me "visualize" it a little to see how close they are with the 350 - but they did not seem to be all that cooperative , which i can understand i guess , business is business , but its not like we are trying to snatch a huge market share here . also dropped in on turbo.com to see if anyone had a busted up v6 girdle laying around to sorta get a feel for it but no one bit . del

    Justa350 I'm BACK!

The typical full girdle requires you to machine all the caps off flush with the block. I'm going to make one that uses raised and clearanced cross members, more like Poston's girdled oil pan. No idea when though.

I can design flat ones and have them CNC cut quickly and easily too, if nobody else does it.

ok, forgive me but im still learning, what is a engine Girdle? basically i mean what does it do to the engine and its purpose ? also, is it known by a different name?

question for most of you....how big are you building your engine? what rpms are you going to turn? and finally, how much money are you going to spend BEFORE the girdle is required or even needed?

you need to answer these questions first. personally, i think your wasting time and money on this project when other items are needed first.

    6500 rpms atleast
initialy 600/650 hp but when i do turn the boost up i'll definatly be in the 750 rwp

besides this, the only things I can think of that the 350 could use is a better oil distriputed/capacity AL oil pan, and ofcourse the long awaited Aluminum heads with a revised valvetrain to accept bigger valves
already have a custom al s/p intake, mls headgaskets, and forged pistons/rods and rollercam(if these were mass produced it would be cheaper for the rest of us)atleast we all hope!

6500 rpm is not a problem now with a well built motor. the 350 IS a great block the way it stands. if the 350 needs improvement right now, that would a single plane intake. s/p and well ported heads, balanced and b/p block will get you 7500 rpm.

    let's estitmate how much to build a 350;

    crank work $300
    a/m rods $1200
    block $300
    pistons $700
    bearings $200
    gaskets $60
    headers $300
    carb $600
    distributor $300
    electronics $300
    heads $2000
    roll/rockers $650
    intake $600
    cam $500
    sfi flywheel $200
    sfi balancer $300
    arp $200
    alum rad $300
    elec w/p $300
    misc $500
    -------
    $9810

$9810 is just a n/a engine. we have that and probably more because of what i do in r&d. and then build a trans, rear, d/shaft, safety equipment, wheels, tires, etc, etc.
how many dollars do you add for turbo or blower?? and then a girdle??

so, you better have a good job or live at home or the wife makes good money AND no kids to support your habit.

all in all, i dont think there is 10 people who will go that far in building a 350. not dampening any spirits, just being realistic.

During that 500Hp thread I asked how much to have one built for me, for a 500/500 350 was around $6-7,000

I already crunched my numbers for the most part, 5k will get me the rest of the parts I need which is already including the roller cam..
my hershe piston/rod combo was 2064.72 i beleive, mls gasket was 292.95 tt kit was 2500+ s/h..intake i paid 100 cause mark is the man, chevy roller rocker stud plate 159.. so only thing i really havent factored in is the price of a port job and assembly.

not down on the project per se. just realistic. you have to do and buy the basic stuff first. and that costs money. are you going to run a blower, tt's, 7500 rpm, 390 cubes or other exotic stuff? 5 guys might need a girdle, but 300 need a s/p intake. there a couple of us that make our own parts, so basic cost are cheap(sometimes). lol
    just some food for thought.

455 parts.....i have a 73 stg1 4spd car. used to race it nhra g/s. one of these days it will be back on the road.
4.1 v6,n/a....we raced that in a skyhawk and skylark.

but my main goal is r&d the 350 buick. which means i have chevy, mopar and ford parts in my garage BECAUSE nobody currently makes what i need. if your ever my way, stop by and see my hellhole.

mike, if you dare, add it all up.
when i raced nhra g/s back in the early 70's, when oil was sold in a 24 qt case, it was full of receipts. started adding it up......i lit it on fire. last time i did that.
