Just talked to Sonny,he recently checked with the machinist and the price is higher than it was 3 years ago, isn't everything.I'll let him relay the price to you,but the more comitments the better, its $150 for setup each time you make a run.

When you guys say CNC, are you talking about a mill?

If so, has anyone thought of the much faster CNC laser? The precision and accuracy these days is impressive.

Best part of all, it's possible to use one big blank (ONE SETUP) to carve several pieces. Remember, setup costs will always be the piece price killer for short run production. It semes to make perfect sense for what appears to be a two-dimensional part...or is third axis machining required?

Waterjet might be worth thinking about too. Easily cuts 2"+ aluminum with pretty good accuracy.

No, I'm going ahead with this build without the girdle but will still buy one if they are made. Adding the girdle afterwards will be expensive though due to having to re-do the allign hone...

either way, let me know sean, as it still may make it into my build, as i dont think my pistons/rods will make it this week/end even though thats when they said they SHOULD be here..

It looks like these can happen but it is going to cost about $700 by the time we get the studs and have them shipped to us. Sonny ran 11.06 with no power adder using the original version of these girdles which ours will be a copy of. Having gone through quite a few engines over the years Sonny warns us looking to push over 550 hp to use forged rods, light pistons and if possible girdle the mains. Using this setup Sonny has proven to be able to keep it all together running over and over lifting the front tires and running 11s with huge compression, cam ect.

As far as a time line, I am not sure how long it will take but Sonny will be getting back to me soon so I'll keep you all updated

Sean, I went through the "run-a-round" with Sonny about the girdle back in 2005 and got nowhere.. your best bet would be to make a template yourself or use this program to design it and have these guys make it: http://www.emachineshop.com/

How the heck can it cost $700 for a girdle? Man I need to get into the business. We just got a old CNC at the farm and we paid for it based on the lbs of the machine.

That is what I am thinking. On top of the girdle cost there is the cost of the ARP main studs and pan area bolts or studs, machining the caps, and align honing the mains. I think the piece of 1018 steel runs about $100.00. I am in for around $400.00. Let's keep looking.

    contacted rj racing

"Making them is no problem, selling them is another. I just don't think there is enough interest in fixing up the 350 buick to warrant going through the trouble of making them.
this is the first time i have had a request for that."

i responded back on how many people we'de need to make it worth his wild to do a run...so we'll see in a day or two i guess one what he says
