The cheapest way to remove rust is to buy a bag of citric acid powder on Amazon. It’s completely non toxic, (people use it for canning and other stuff, it’s sort of like powdered lemon juice…) you just mix it with warm water and let stuff soak. If you can leave it in the sun, even better. The hotter water helps. The next day take a brush and the rust will rinse off. It’s pretty gentle on paint that’s not already loose. It’s non toxic so you can dispose of it safely, and it won’t burn your skin off or kill the neighbors cat. I do wear gloves because it’s is an acid so you don’t want bathe in it. I also use a little in my dishwasher to get the funky smell out and use it to clean my coffee maker….
So I'm going to skip ahead to what I'm doing as of now for I few, I've been working to remove the windshield from my rivi as it is cracked and both front and rear window seals are failing so I'm looking at having front windshield replaced and both resealed for the winter weather months ahead, my question is are these gutters solid and ready for a windshield or do I need to remove any rust and weld on some re enforced metal?
So the vin number is not on the dash nor on the door and I have only found part of a worn out number on the engine block but nothing in any legible condition so I'm stumped on both for the time being.
You got GOOD bones (sheet metal/chassis) there! Keep at it, don’t let the soft stuff deter you, I’d be pumped too
So I really hate rivets and decided to drill them out of this trunk lock patch area and fit it with screws for easier access.
Finally got some new locks with keys to lock up the car when the windshield is in, one is working but something is preventing the other from opening the door so when I've got some decent weather I'll take a deeper look at the inside of the door to see what is snagging it up.
On another note I got the gutters cleaned up more, I don't currently have a sand blaster but plan to get one to blast the rust spots, also thinking of having someone patch up those holes in the metal near the dash.
Lastly I was given some wheels and tires by a friend so I pulled the old wheels and tires off and mounted the other ones so I can move the rivi when I need to and can trailer it easier, going to keep the rallies incase I want to go original at some point.
